Default Goldwing 2009-2010 GPS Firmware related & model details.

I am opening this thread because i have seen several discussion about 2006-2008 Goldwing GPS units but few info about 2009-2010 versions.
I will start with some history about different models.

Beginning from 2006 Honda installed an integrated GPS navigation system in Goldwing GL1800 motorcycles.
Two localization were built, one for the US market and one for EU market, anyway in Europe there are many US version due to parallel import from the States. Development of the unit started almost 2 year before the exit of the model so is based on old devices.

First version ( 2006-2008) is derived from the Streetpilot 2610, have HWID 265 for US version and HWID 506 for EU version. Uses a CF card up to 2 GB to store maps and files and uses non NT maps data. Both versions have an hidden usb port inside the case. The unit can be switched off via the system menu.
Latest FW are 4.50 and 4.60 for US version and 2.60 for EU version. With those latest firmwares the unit is able to use NT maps. For the US version is available a mod that enables also the localization change, giving the possibility to choose the voices via the menu.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Discussions about this version are present in several forums. A hidden menu is accessible by using the Zoom IN/OUT control with the sequence IN-OUT-OUT-IN.

Second version (2009-2010), derived from ??? , have HWID 0712 for US version and HWID ??? for EU version.
Uses a SD up to 4GB (even HC types) to store maps and files; uses NT maps. Has built in an XM radio and weather/traffic alert system, for this reason the menu for switch off the device was removed. On the service manual of the bike two antenna are indicated ,one for gps and the other for XM. The SW is revised and the screen reading is improved using different colors and graphic. It has a sort of Predictive Position Technology, so the system continue to updating the drawed map even with a poor GPS signal. For this reason connections with speed sensor and reverse gear sensor are provided. The last FW release is V 2.30 for US versions and V ??? for EU versions. The hidden menu is present with the same sequence of previous model.

Third version (2012 & up) is a completely new device. It's derived from ???, has a new structure of directory and files so it's possible a easy mod to change localization from US to EU. It uses .gpx format, has 2 SD cards, one hidden for the system maps and another removable for routes and it's also possible to plan and store routes from pc to SD using Honda Trip Planner web site. HWID is ??? FW is ???

All models have a soft lock system that disables the controls when the bike is moving, except the Zoom control and Voice on/off Control.

Coming back to the firmware related discussion I am interested to know if someone has worked around the 2009-2010 US model to remove the software lock or to change languages.
    Hope this helps.

    @pharmaweb
Succinct and accurate summation of the history of GW Navi units. As noted we have latest fw versions and HWIDs for US and EU 2006-2008, the SP2610-derived units:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (US)
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (US)
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (EU)

We also have the main system fw, Region OE bin file, for US 2009-2010 SD equipped Navi HWID 0712 courtesy of yourself: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Post #129. Full fw not yet available.[?]

If anyone can supply the missing info [???] in Post #1, [i.e. Firmwares, HWIDs, derivations] it would be most appreciated. I'll then make a fw summary to be included in the Index.

Maybe the 2009-2010 model is based on 2720-2820 family?
    Or 7200-7500 family ?
I just took some time to review all discontinued items by Garmin and ordered them by year. The first with XM was 2720.

    Looking at Honda parts nr.:
    Navi 2006: 39201-mca-a81
    Navi 2007: 39201-mca-a81
    Navi 2008: 39201-mca-r00
    Navi 2009: 39201-mca-r40
    Navi 2010: 39201-mca-w30
    Navi 2012: 39201-mca-s81
So two release of 2006-2008 and two release of 2009-2010 models ???

Found a photo of an open unit. Courtesy of Fred H. (gl1800riders forum)
The unit seems to be derived from Garmin GVN 53.

    Please note the usb port.
To this port can be connected also a tmc unit (ie. gtm 10,12?).
Connectors on the bottom are for XM antenna, Monitor and interface with the audio system of the bike, the black one is for GPS antenna i think.
Near the sd card there is the reset button.

I am not sure but I believe that the 2006-2008 are derived from the gvn 52.
    Also the 2006 - 2008 have two part # 39201-mca-A70 and 39201-mca-a81.

Also pharmaweb did you say you have the 2009 nav in your earlier model goldwing ?
If so do you know much about the hardware changes needed for this change ?

    Hi Jinxxxxx,
2006-08 model is derived from 2610
    2008-10 from gvn53
    2012 it's not a garmin manifactured item

For the upgrade to 2009 systems you need to buy the gps as spare part and it's antenna.
Remove the old part and connect the new one. Follow the antenna cable under the dash, disconnect the old one and connect the new antenna, find a suitable position under the windscreen.
Price around 500$ plus vat and shipment.

    Pharmaweb

Thanks for the info. But to late I already ordered the nav replacement. Maybe some one else will be able to use the info. Also it should be under $300.00 for the parts.

Sorry for late answer but i was travelling in eastern european countries.

the price varies in different online dealers.
Around 350 for the navi and 150 for the aerial.
You can use the old aerial but gps will give some error messages before start correctly.
