I've been trying desperately bringing the preboot mode on a Nuvi 65, but despite I've read all posts of this thread and also tried by Google, no success so far. Could someone, please, help me? Thanks in advance!
instruction in OP are ok for nuvi 66, picture too. I patched my nuvi 66 this way.
If you have to patch Nuvi, remember to open Updater.exe dragging .rgn in it, tick USB before starting nuvi .
After being beated several times, BUT persisting after your answer, catymag, I finally got it and it's working flawless since then. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I tried that, the device is showing in the drop-down list. But then I can't flash (Garmin Updater) "Garmin Device is not repsonding".
Any ideas? Device is a GPSMAP64S.

It will only stay in preboot mode for a limited time if a flash isn't started. Some units hold preboot for only ~10 seconds so you must move quickly. That message means that it's dropped preboot. IMMEDIATELY you see the device details appear in the window, click 'OK.
