Something else worth comment is that old nuvi series 2x0, 3x0 and 6x0 backup 41 empty but they can backup other less-important regions. However, interestingly the card's path for 3x0 and 6x0 is 2:/ as it is with 2013> devices, which in fact write 1:/ to the hidden RWFS ram flash as described [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. So with 2013> [and only them], it's therefore possible to write regions elsewhere than a card and then move the backups from RWFS to elsewhere using a PC. However, as neither the unit itself or RWFS cannot execute script commands, you still need to have a card to do that but it could be a help if you only have a tiny 32MB microSD and want to dump a lot of regions together. There was an earlier question in here about backing up without a card but from memory the poster had a 2012 unit anyway. In any case the short answer is it's impossible to dump regions from any unit without using a card, as one is required to at least execute the script in update.txt.

Relatedly, Linux OS units like nuvi 5000 and 8xx cannot write 41 or for that matter any other regions that we know as commented on by kunix [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

It would be worthwhile knowing if any of the Asian Android units are capable, but my guess is if the Linux units can't then neither can they.

A handy tip to try with a unit which refuses to write to the card is to add an empty update.log file in with ldr.bin and update.txt, that will enable some units to then do backups.

In your case, the card wasn't getting a look in at all until you changed the path to 2:/ anyway. The previous attempts were all writing and then overwriting 41.bin to RWFS. You'll find it's still there if you look.

you are absolutely right neil. i have so many 41.bin files in the unit's RWFS. all of those i have created with so many file names are in there. that's one thing to note also.

    way to find out is...
    View Map....
    Press Speed....
    Speedometer shows up.....
Press the center of the speedometer for few seconds until the Diagnostic Page appears.....
    Scroll down to RWFS Settings...
    Tick "Show in Mass Storage"

Exit the Diagnostic Page and shut off the unit.....
Connect your Unit via USB to your PC and in your Computer Drive, you will find 2 Garmin Directories one of them will be the RWFS which contains hidden file .System and your 41.bin file....

(this is assuming that your MTP settings is set to "Mass Storage")

Thanks, it may not be widely known how to do that. Some pics on how to show RWSF in MSM are in Alviora's post here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

I posted this question [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], but was advised to post it here too:

I have a nüvi 250 with HWID 0834 and FW 3.80 but there's no GUPDATE.GCD file in the Garmin folder. I believe this FW version has not been shared here yet. Any way I can extract the FW file from this unit and share it at GPS Power?

I am confused here. Post #1 says:
"4-In the above folder copy Ldr.bin . What is Ldr.bin? It is your firmware boot.bin you can extract with RGN_tool".
But there is no extract button in RGN_tool. Under File there are Open RGN/GCD, Save to RGN, Save to GCD. Under Tools there is MP3 Patch. Under Help there is only About. That's all. I assumed that once I connect my Nuvi 3490 to my PC and run RGN_tool it would recognize my Nuvi and pull that Ldr.bin out of it. Perhaps I am wrong. Need help. Thanx.

No, you need 34xx firmware and save its boot.bin as .rgn by RgnTool

SF, do you still have this unit with V3.80 on it? I too would be interested to obtain a copy of that version. Giomen's answer to you in the previous thread about obtaining copies of regions 12 & 14 [boot.bin and fw_all.bin respectively] is only partly helpful because although 14 can be dumped successfully from 2x0/2x0W units, region 12 dumps but is empty so i believe it's protected. Region 5 dumps but is not a complete 'boot.bin' of course, and also there's the question of what you'd to use as ldr.bin in any case as raised by Giomen. kunix's or similarly qualified help is needed with this i believe and maybe open forum isn't the place for talk of ways to overcome dumping protected regions anyway .

    Hi to all.
I have 3770V with 2.6 firmware and I can`t copy Region41 like I copy from my 3490 and 3790. Is there any spacial procedure for copying region41 from this 3770V?
The other strange thing is that I can`t update the software version form 2.6 to the last one, and there is no UPDATE.GCD fail in .System directory too.
Can you advise me how to copy the Region41 from my 3770V?
    Thank you!
