If Garmin add functionality to fenix to be used as a remote Bluetooth GPS I think this one would be superb.
Bluetooth will eat a half of worktime! Forget it! Bluetooth is instrument for audio and file transfer only.Quote:

But WiFi technology is good for energy saving. Try search for ANT. Garmin use this network protocol:
Spoiler: CLICK
True. The BT really eats the battery but this is not an excuse. Many Smartpohones or tablets don't have GPS but have BT. Have you seen Pebble?
Yeah, I know GNT 10. It is for remote navigation from quatix of the boat via NMEA 2000. And is only for quatix not for fenix. But seems useless to me. Wondering who is going to navigate his boat from his watch?! One of those strange garmin solutions...
There is not new shared perfect protocols!? BT is religion for transfer files and media. No other way is for wireless communication between device! So we are ready to pay any cost for that. And I think you remember the times when bluetooth "spam" was in many hotels and stores?Quote:

In any case ANT is supported by many Garmin device. A little investigation is needed...
I am one from this idiots! On my very small boat I need to carry Garmin handheld on my neck in despite of two chartplotter on panel and transom. I do not have any clerks with phone on board usually and I must see the navigation info by myself in any moment. If I would spend more time in the sea I think the Quatix will be more convenient and handy than GPSMAP76CSx. I do not speak about the worth of repeating data from powerful and more clever devices in any place of big boat. Garmin know how to please me! That is a pity what for my money...Quote:

Yes, but to use this functionallity on quatix you need to have a whole marine system instaled on your boat - GHP, GWS, GSD, Chartplotter, txdr etc. which is more than >10 000$ Not to metion that GHP have a remote control (GHC?).
Quatix works only with devices which have autopilot. ;)
Are you sure? I think it can work with every device having NMEA 2000. Raymarine too.Why an autopilot is obligatory?
What is some few hundreds bucks for Fenix in >10 000$ budget! GHP a remote control is not look like wrist watch. I will try to dismount it for test! I had successful slept on Zumo 550 (this device is not plain and I am not Princess and the Pea) and would try GHC :)Quote:

I'm sorry, I think it could be connected to autopilot via wifi to control some functions and for using MOB. Via ANT you could connect it to Garmin GNT's only for obtaining data to device on your wrist.
