    Guide Convert Nuvi 2460 to Dezl 560 Truckies Nav.

    Convert Nuvi 2460 to Dezl 560

    You will lose Voice Recognition on conversion (but it's only ASR 1 so who cares really?), however you will enable additional features in your device which are invaluable for truckies and caravan/campervan junkies with separate vehicle profiles for Truck and Caravan/Motor Home as well as retaining the Car & Pedestrian profiles, all selectable from the main screen or within Tools>Setting>Navigation. What else over 2460?: Exit Services on Major Motorways/Freeways available to select from the 'Where To?' menu as shown in the last 2 screenshots. Everything else is retained of course other than ASR. You'll still have BT, ecoRoute, Customizable Main Screen, Trip Planner, Traffic, blah blah, all the way thru to Language Guide (see below). Same appearance for JCV etc.

    Spoiler: Instructions
    Method 1:

    You can safely convert your 2460 using this method of combining fw. Because it uses the original 2460 boot.bin with original HWID of 1273, there is practically zero chance of bricking your unit if you use the correctly modified fw and follow the correct flashing process. Flashing back to the full 2460 fw is the same process described below but using original fw as an rgn.

    Things that you will need to flash the firmware, although you won't need to download the 2 firmwares if you dl the rgn file linked at the end of the Method 1:

    • If you don't already know how, before you do anything else learn how to backup region 41 Non-Volitile Memory from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], and do it.
    • Get the latest 2460 firmware. Available from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
    • Get the latest 560 firmware. Available from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
    • If you don't have RGN_Tool & updater.exe, attached in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Before you attempt any flashing of firmware, always do a full files backup of your unit (important), a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to microSD Card (IT'S ESSENTIAL & CAN RECOVER A BRICKED UNIT!), and clear NV memory or at least hard reset your unit. There is no need to remove any files other than GUPDATE.GCD from from your 2460 as the 560 will use the same text, keyboard, voice, JCV etc files. The Help files are a little different of course. The ASR files will not be used so you can remove them if you want to make space, or just leave them if you intend to reconvert as it won't matter if they're on the unit as a 560. You can dl dezl 560 specific files such as Help files with WebUpdater using an SD card/virtual SD/usb flash drive as shown later.

    We need to flash an rgn file, combining the boot bin from 2460 and the fw_all bin from 560, to your unit. You can download the rar file from the end of this method which contains the modded 12730100330.rgn in which case you can then start from Step 4. Or you can make the rgn yourself using Steps 1, 2 & 3. EITHER WAY, REMOVE GUPDATE.GCD (if present) from .system folder before you start:

    1. Open the 2460 fw in RGN_Tool, press the Save button on the first section to save the boot.bin somewhere convenient. Close RGN_Tool.
    2. Open the 560 fw and press the Load button on the first section, browse to where you saved the 2460 boot.bin and select it.
    3. In the Overrides section, check HWID and enter 1273 in the field. Press the RGN button to save the modded fw as 127301000xxx.rgn (where xxx is the version number of the 560 fw you're using eg 127301000330.rgn for fw V3.30).
    4. Put updater.exe in the same directory as the rgn file and drag it on top of updater.exe. If you are using Win 7, firstly right click updater.exe and select run as administrator and set compatibility mode to WinXP SP3.
    5. Select usb on updater.exe when it opens, and leave it visible on your desktop.
    6. Plug the usb lead into your PC, but not into the unit yet.
    7. Ensure that your unit is completely off. Use a finger, thumb or pencil eraser to hold the upper LH corner of the screen (as you look at it), then plug the usb lead into the unit while still holding the corner to access pre-boot mode.
    8. When the unit details appear in the usb window of updater.exe, quickly press OK and wait for 'Loader' to appear on the unit's screen before releasing the screen corner. Do not unplug the unit until updater.exe prompts you that the fw has been flashed successfully.
    9. Hard reset or preferably clear NV on the unit again.

    The unit will now identify as dezl 2460 on the boot screen and dezl 560 in the inventory first page. The unit's HWID remains as 1273 so WebUpdater/My Dashboard still considers it to be a Nuvi 2460 although showing it as a dezl 2460. To update to newer firmware, you will need to repeat the process using a fresh modded rgn made as above.

    NOTE: If you use WebUpdater to update firmware, although it will identify the unit as dezl 2460, but will download the Nuvi 2460 GUPDATE.GDC to the unit and that fw will load on reboot and your unit returns to 2460. To flash back to the same or earlier full 2460 fw you can make the 2460 fw as an rgn file and flash using updater.exe.

    Download Updater.rar containing 127301000370.rgn & Updater.exe from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    Method 2:

    This will load the full dezl fw and your unit will have HWID of 1269. Worked fine for me and flashed back to 2460 ok. Remove gupdate.gcd if present. Backup NV and clear NV. Then, save the 560 fw as out.rgn (or updater.exe will give the message 'No updates found for your device' if you use xxxx01000xxx.rgn format, and stall). To flash back, do the same with 2460 fw as out.rgn. Flashing full 560 fw inherently has more risk than using the 2460 boot.bin, it should be ok however time will tell. Your unit may simply die one day or refuse to turn on and be irrecoverable. More convenient for future fw updates as WebUpdater will dl the 560 fw gupdate.gcd and specific files etc to the unit if you like to do it that way. Same precautions as other method, do full files and NV backups first and clear NV before and after flashing, preferably clear it a couple of times to be sure.

    BE AWARE that the usual caveats apply and you are doing this at your own risk. If your device ends up bricked, please do not blame me. I've done both flashing methods back and forth several times on an AU 2460 without any problems but cannot and will not warrant that you won't get into trouble. If you don't understand the process, don't attempt it until you do understand. If you wish to minimise risk, use Method 1. ALWAYS back up NV, and do clearing of unprotected NV both before and after flashing preferably a couple of times.

    FUTURE UPDATES:

    If you are like me and don't like exposing your units directly to Garmin 'helper' programs, you can use a SD/virtualSD/USB flash drive as a 'stunt double' of your device. Use FAT32 format and copy .system folder [without maps to save space] and Garmin folder onto it. Rename the media 'GARMIN'. If you used Method 1 the unit is still HWID 1273 and you may want the dezl specific files such as Help, so on the SD open the GarminDevice.xml in WordPad then change the HWID from 1273 to 1269. My advice is to use WebUpdater but never Garmin Express for software. I won't use GE for maps either, MapUpdater is safer imo too and I also use the sd method for dl of them. When you have the files you want, including a new gupdate.gcd if required, simply copy and paste them to your unit's correct directories replacing your old backed up files. Much safer than hooking your unit up directly imo.

    A note about Oxford Language Guide, i hadn't enabled it on 2460 before conversion and decided to do it as dezl. You may need to zip up the LEX_PKG folder, rename it D046800.zip and unzip it directly inside the unit's Garmin folder. Put D046800.unl file in there too with JM generated unlock code and on reboot select the icon and it will load. No other method worked for me. It still worked ok when i converted back to nuvi too.

    The logos of 2460 and 560 it seems are identical but I haven't confirmed this other than there are no problems noted without a logo change. Confirmation by someone in the know would be appreciated.

    Finally, a special thanks to Alviora for his [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] that 2460 and 560 share the same hardware platforms which prompted me to post this.

    I have tried to convert 2300 to 2400 and it didn't worked. After flashing back to 2300 internal drive data were damaged. I had to restore it using region dump.

    I don't remember if I tried dezl too, but i think results would be the same.

    @bpb
    2350 is quite different hw to 2460, whereas 2460 and 560 share the same platform.

    @Kanopus
    Did you flash 24xx fw directly to 23xx or use 23xx boot.bin with HWID 1187?

    ========================

    Ok, answered my own question there. You probably used full 2460 fw. I've tried with original 2350 boot and HWID overide to 1187. It boots, but no locales selectable, it can't see maps or find voices etc. I didn't even leave it run long enough to see if it could find satellites, too many other problems. Flashed back to 2350 ok and seems to be running with no probems. No point trying with 560 fw_all.bin i think.

    Hi seal77,
    No, sorry. 24x5 series is different to 24x0 series in both hw and sw.

    2xx0 to 2xx5 generally should lost the partition and FML number. Thanks Kunix again helping me on this recovering.

    This thread make me think again another trial on the 2xx0 to delz series.

    What Kunix found out for my 2300 unit he need to modify the boot.bin to get a special region.
    The solution I have now is only 2300 and I do not know how to make that patch.

    Hello Neil! Great to know about these possibilities. It would be interesting to have some information about the accuracy of gps in the 2 conversion methods. By chance you came to compare them? If we make an analogy with the 3790 converted with full 3490 fw, which resulted in considerable inacuracy, we can assume the same with 2460 to 560? If the precision of the first method is higher, appear to be a strong indicator that the boot drivers are crucial in precision and that the same principle must be valid for the 3790 converted to 3490. Would miss only get operationalize the process with these firwmares ..

    Nice idea Angelo! Unfortunately i only have one 2460/560 to play with so i can't do side-by-side tests as i did with 3790>3490 convert and original 3790.
    But i'll see what results i can get with rough testing. Stand by, might be a little while as i'll have to convert back and forth several times.
