Yes, you were right, but he was still receiving and displaying the information in Austria.

I understand that. However, such intermittent behaviour can be an indication of a 'make and break' malfunction especially when it happens during or after an electronic item is being moved or bumped. Maybe he was just lucky it didn't drop the connection in Austria ... or the sub for Austria/Germany is one of the allowed 15 maximum and Italy/Slovenia isn't. Regardless, even if it is hardware-related, because it's an FM-only receiver i wouldn't spend time to trace the fault unless it was an easy fix like a minor resoldering job, e.g. a loose antenna wire.

Re-soldering both cables of the one for the 12V antenna and replaced the MICRO USB cable.
Counting the time I wasted I could have bought 10 new ones, but it was a challenge to solve.
HERE, with YOUR help, I tried everything you advised and now we both know that the thing has now finally failed.
Although when I plug in the cable the traffic subscriptions are still visible in service mode. In the basic menu for traffic information it no longer recognises the receiver.
