I second that proposal. It's disappointing that these units don't have the capability for FM transmission of the audio to the vehicle's entertainment unit as did earlier 6x0/7xx .....

Maybe it would be better to continue this discussion over in this thread?: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Quite OT here. There's already been a bit of discussion over there about the mount which dasilvarsa was involved in too. It seems a far better and less invasive option to add a surface socket to the mount rather than glue something to the 3xxx itself as the OP there did. Single channel out is a bit of a pain if that's correct though.

I bought a refurb Nuvi 3490LMT (US maps). Updated maps right out of the box via Garmin Express. It also updated software to v8.20. Loaded empty enable/diable.xml files + UpdateDeviceConfig.xml. After restart only UpdateDeviceConfig.xml was gone and there were no media and video player buttons on the apps page. From my experience with another 3490 unit I know that trick worked with software v6.20. So I decided to revert to an older software version. The oldest I could find was 6.30 (from here
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
). Now I have my players. So beware of software version 8.20 (and possibly other versions 7 and 8) because of the players issue. It seems like Garmin is becoming more and more like Apple (e.g., adding .gma on top of .unl). I wouldn't be surprised if in the future we'll have to jailbreak Garmin devices.
One other issue with update to v8.20. GTM traffic did not update to 3.1 and remained at 2.1. Traffic receiver quite frequently and at length entered into "receiving traffic updates".

I moved your post from the 'Convert 3790/3760/3750' thread to here.

That old method of editing the xml file doesn't work with later fw as you found. You now need to mod the unit's region 140 as per the initial post in this thread if you want to use latest firmware [highly recommended].

I appreciate you doing that. Not only did you move my post to the right thread, you also edited the way the link included therein looks the way it should. I'll certainly look into region editing, although I'm not familiar with it.
Have any ideas as far as GTM traffic updates? GTM status shows 03-searching for minutes at a time basically rendering traffic feature useless.

We code outside links to prevent refbacks. The perry site isn't a concern really, but there are some which we really don't want to invite for that. You won't need to look much further for an example of when coding is very important. It's best to be consistent and simply code all such outside links, good habit to develop.

WebUpdater or GarminExpress should have offered you that software update when your 3490 was connected ['update for type 3 traffic receiver']. However, here it is:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Drag the gcd file onto the WebUpdater icon with your nuvi connected, it will load it to the unit and the traffic receiver should be automatically updated when you connect it to the unit later.

Since using latest firmware is "highly recommended", now that I have modding tool to activate features on my Nuvi 3490, I upgraded from 6.30 (under which I activated MP3 and Video Playback using 0 bytes xml files) back to 8.20. I expected to loose MP3 and Video Playback. To my amuzement those features did not get deactivated. Evidently, later software blocks feature activation via 0 bytes xml files, but once a feature is activated it does not deactivate it.

Not so lucky here. I dragged firmware update for type 3 traffic receiver gcd file over Webupdater icon. That launched Webupdater and it said "Device updated", but did not offer me to update to type 3 traffic receiver. What it did offer were supplemental updates pertaining primarily to voice. Also it copied that type 3 traffic receiver gcd file to .System folder and renamed it GUPDATE.GCD (MD5 for both files is the same value). After I connected the unit to the traffic receiver Traffic receiver Status still says GTM60 Software Version 2, Class 2.

I've seen that bug before, WU mistakes it for a unit software update, renames it accordingly as GUPDATE.GCD and places it in .System where it does nothing. Rename it to 006B090100.GCD and move it to the RemoteSW subfolder of .System then hook up your GTM60.

When you drag a software update file onto webupdater, it doesn't offer you that again because it's already loaded it to the device. It will offer you other updates of course after the specific file has been loaded.

    Did exactly that. Didn't work. This is what I have in the RemoteSW folder: 006B048201.BIN, 006B121100.GCD, 006B121107.GCD, 006B139900.GCD, 006B107300.GCD, 006B121102.GCD, 006B125700.GCD, 006B090100.GCD

Could be that 'Type 3 GTMxx' is only for the FM side of the GTM60 and doesn't update the HD Radio software however even more probably it's exclusively for the FM-only receivers such as GTM25-36. I have two 3597 units, one from NA with a GTM60 receiver OEM, and an AU with GTM36 as OEM. Both units received the 006B090100.GCD as firmware updates at some point, but only the NA unit had 006B154600.GCD onboard from new which is, i'm now certain, the firmware for GTM60 and probably updates both FM and HD Radio for it. As it was on the NA unit as OEM and Garmin have not issued any further updates for GTM60, you should be quite safe to add that file to RemoteSW folder to your 3590:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
If your refurbished NA 3590 came boxed with GTM60 [not GTM36] i'm only mildly surprised that the original GTM60 firmware was not factory loaded to the nuvi as it was with my NA 3597. Clearly it wasn't or it would be in RemoteSW folder unless it's been removed subsequently. Refurbs in the blue and white box often aren't properly updated by Garmin in my experience. Here's the file anyway as it's not available to download from Garmin according to the above link:

I put 006B154600.GCD, which is only 1029KB, into the RemoteSW folder. No update. So at this point I kind of give up. There are known issues with GTM70 updates rendering those traffic receivers bricked. The last thing I need is to have my GTM60 bricked. It seems to me that Garmin made a little boo-boo, so lets wait and see if they correct themselves. I'll keep an eye on this issue, once I come up with some ideas I'll post. Thanx for the effort.
