Default Bricked my Dakota 10! (solved with kunix's cure)

I loaded tiles from the Inland Lakes map into the internal memory of my Dakota 10 using Basecamp (after splitting the img file via GMAPTOOL) and now I have a brick. I've tried forcing it into USB Mass Storage Mode using both recovery methods in the Oregon Wiki at least a hundred times to no avail - I can't get my computer to recognize the device and the unit just continues showing the Garmin logo ad infinitum. Anything else I can try before sending it to Garmin for repair?

So, basically here is one of the available cure methods. It just forces entering the mass storage mode.

But can you test this one for me at first? I don't know how it works with dakota. It does the same thing but it doesn't require full firmware flashing.

Thanks but I don't know how, or even if it's possible, to put the Dakota into pre-boot mode which I believe I would need to do first to get this to work, correct? I've searched and while there are plenty of instructions on how to put Nuvi's and some other models into pre-boot, I haven't found any instructions for the Dakota or Oregon units.

It's definitely possible to put dakota into preboot mode, I just don't remember how. But one clever man suggests me press and hold the power button, then connect it to the PC.

    Start Updater.exe
    Power off the unit.
    Disconnect USB Cable.
Hold Power button down - Quickly Plug in USB Cable - Continue to hold power button down - Select USB on Updater.exe
Start the Flashing when you see Loader on the unit Release the Power Button.
This has worked for some and not for others.

I tried pressing and holding the power button both before, at the same time and right after connecting the USB cable dozens of times to no avail. I have not been able to find any preboot instructions for the Dakota so if anyone knows how I would be grateful.

Yup - I've tried this as well many times but Updater doesn't find the device.

You can try removing batteries before performing preboot actions.
Also there are a few useful links:

Looks like many tourist devices (at least oregon and etrex 20) have a forced mass storage mode..

Maybe it's better to disconnect the cable before powering off.

I've tried it with and without the batteries and I've tried running the Updater before and after disconnecting. I'm away from my computer now but will try some more combinations tonight.
