The other thing is that I need to push cursor up in order to get it to be recognised on usb in both MAC and PC platforms this kinda worries me as well. Before I did the initial update that caused all the drama I could just plug usb in and it would recognise automatically. By the way HomePort didn't recognise the map on my SD card.

62 and 78 are pretty similar, what do you have?
Please enable extensions, so we can see if your mapping naming is right.
Ps: have you hard resetted it?

As I can understand you dont have any detailed map in your device , so nothing in map list should be displayed.
Basemap isnt listed in Maps list and cant be deselected too-
Not sure 78 basemap is the same than in 62 , may be you need a marine basemap, users could help-
You can put downloaded map in this Garmin folder as gmapsupp.img or, better, in SD/Garmin-
Not sure Profiles folder should contain just Marine profile.
