Report on one Nuvi 255W was killed.

I did back up 2 Nuvi 255W all the region, which same HWID 827.
attempt to erase the region 5 and write back the region 5 which from other Nuvi 255w,
    command as below:
    ergn,5
    rrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin
    reboot

    update.log
    Parsing "ergn,5"
    Success
    Parsing "rrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin"
    Success
    Parsing "reboot"
    Success

Nothing change, but once I switched off the Nuvi, it's dead, no power on, even connect with Garmin charger or USB cable connect to PC, still no Power on,
May be can announce that "it's Dead", Sorry for hear that.
If you want to WRITE region 5 from other Nuvi you must use xrgn instead of rrgn:
    ergn,5
    xrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin
    reboot
BTW ergn,5 it's not obligatory. By xrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin you will overwrite the region 5.

Maybe it's safer not to do ergn,5 if next step fails region 5 will still be unchanged,
you can then get another chance.

Can someone please explain what are the contents of region 5 ?

Generally speaking you are right. But in this particular case now it doesn't matter, because original region 5 it's already destroyed.

Region 5 contains the bootloader, which is responsible for the pre-boot mode and running boot.bin and fw_all.bin.
Also it would be safer to avoid doing "ergn,5". In this particular case the device would be still alive.

omg, I was always afraid that all the **** I'm saying about ramloaders, bootloaders, x-loaders is misunderstood.
When I say ramloader I imply the boot.bin, and this is reasonable, because in cell phones ramloaders serve the same purpose.
So, in the pre-boot mode the bootloader (region 5) receives&executes the ramloader (region 12, virtual region, not contained in the flash chip), which in turn flashes (sometimes) the bootloder and the x-loader (so, the ramloader has inside it copies of the bootloader and the x-loader (not always)), and then receives and flashes the other regions.
I don't fully understand what the x-loader (region 43) is needed for, I suppose it executes the bootloader, so it's better to leave him intact.

    Hi All,
Thanks, I make a big mistake for wrongly use the command, my bad.

Another one Nuvi 255w will be killed if I power off it.

I attempt another Nuvi 255w with correct command
first I tried only with command
    xrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin
    Result:
    Parsing "xrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin"
    Error

2nd tried, erased region 5 and write back command
    ergn,5
    xrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin
    result:
    Update.log
    Parsing "ergn,5"
    Success
    Parsing "xrgn,5,1:/region_5.bin"
    Error
    Parsing "reboot"
    Success
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Now this Unit still connect with Garmin Charger, still Power ON,
if I off it, definitely it will not power on forever,
any idea to recovery it ?

Did you have region_5.bin in the root of the memory card ?
Was the file name correct ?
    It should have worked.

But from log it's clear that region 5 is erased and then copied to SD card. So on SD card he have a copy of an empty region 5.
