Hm, 11 voices sounds weird. But this is really what carlinux said. The dumped audio package (region 0x11) is called "Seminole Audio Pkg 1" and it's only 570KB long. It's doubtful it contains all the 11 voices.
I'm primarily afraid of EU firmware being not fully compatible with US hardware and US NVRAM contents. This has to be tested.
And bad voice data could also make firmware crash, which could be fatal with no pre-boot mode. So this has to be tested also.

Well, I'm probably more paranoid this time than you guys are, but just think about it... no good pre-boot mode, no way to recover from firmware crashes.
I don't know why Garmin makes such devices.

Not me, i'm neither paranoid or not paranoid [just ignorant, which is bliss]. I agree that no preboot is a big worry though. Even with my limited fw experience i've been able to 'un-brick' plenty of nuvis using your Cure3 and earlier methods. The things without preboot like early SPs, GVNs and these navis must have some secret recovery methods known only to Garmin surely. JTAG or via the hidden usb maybe? I wouldn't know of course but it would seem to be quite cavalier of garmin not to have some method of recovery. But then 'Garmin is so Garmin' .... I don't blame you at all for feeling your way slowly with this. Seems more prudent than paranoid maybe.

    Default errors

Hello European firmware in USA runs smoothly, as well as the USA firmware on European works correctly.
The fact is that I have friends with bikes USA and European firmware and other firmware with European bikes with USA, they all work, but the problem is that doing the update, all have fallen silent.
I think that just grab the European update and add voices to the would be enough.

    regards

    saludos

kunix, I confirm that 11 voices are running without apparent problems, english included.
I obtained this in two steps. At first an 11 MB flashing (not 570 KB) and then the original v.260. In both steps the proper boot and HWID must be used.

    Just two important warnings.
I don't know if it is possible to join these two steps in one only gupdate.gcd. Only you can say if this is possible, but I know it is not necessary.
I am testing this mod because I have a second unit in case of fault. "unsuspecting pubblic" must be carefully until me or someone other tester release a "fairly good" firmware. I think the most important test is to ride long travels using the navi so it can read&write the most part of regions so to intercept possible problems.

Okay, here is what I think should be the release. EU v2.60 firmware is used and the dumped voices are added (redundant 0xFF bytes at the end are truncated).
    fw_all.bin version is increased by one, i.e. it's 2.61.
    HWID265:

That voices data is not 570KB, it's true. I was looking at a wrong dump file.

Not sure to understand. HWID 504 is just European. In what case is it to be used?
Units to be changed are 265 and 712.

I added voices to 504 firmware just in case someone wants to use them.
I've never heard of HWID 712. Does 504 firmware works on it? Can you give me a link to its firmware so that I can use original boot.bin?

Sorry kunix I don't understand. HWID 504 is the european where the voices came from. It seems that you write EU voices where they just are, but I am sure this is a my misunderstanding. If you send me a PM with the link to them I try to look to them.

These are the informations I put on the Gold Wing Club Italia Forum, I hope they can be usefull

I thought that the dumped voices pack is "unique", i.e. it doesn't come with stock EU bikes. If it does come, then you're right.
I see that HWID712 uses sys.bin instead of fw_all.bin and it's a 2009-2010 navi model. I don't know how to flash it with voices, as I don't know how to find the proper boot.bin.
Also maybe voices are present as VPM files, what do you think?

Yes, the voices pack is "unique" because it is related 1:1 to a fw that give you the possibility to switch to all of the 11 in the list. This pack is only present in the eeprom of the EU models, because an EU model can be sold in Italy or in Spain and so on, so the owner just select his own language and press OK. Voices are not available as file update but are only present in the eeprom of EU bikes. This is the reason why we need to dump this pack.

You are right. HWID 712 is mostly similar to 265 and it uses the same fw version (4.31 original and 4.5 for upgrade). It uses sys.bin instead of gupdate.gcd and I am pretty sure that this sys.bin contains its boot and fw_all. I don'know the structure of sys.bin but I will have a HWID712 navigation unit in my hands at the beginning of July. Starting from that date we will can make all we need.

This is the first try I have done last year but unfortunately fw does'nt read VPM. HWID 712 only read sys.bin from the SD like 265 & 504 read gupdate.gcd from the CF.
