Thanks for the explanation which i mostly understand. But the idea of using it in a gupdate.gcd where the device doesn't have a 'conventional pre-boot mode' for RGN flashing is new surely? My friend with the GW has moved to Perth which is about as far away as you can get from me without falling into the Indian Ocean so i no longer have access to one of these Navis to play with. An unkind explanation for his move would be that he did it to stop me playing with his GW navi.

You probably remember that my interest in this topic is that i'm hoping the NT capabilities can be awakened in SP 2610/2650 like US fw v4.50/4.60 somehow does. Succeeding with that would immortalise you with a whole new group of bikers worldwide, and maybe i could bribe the local Hells Angels to stop terrorising me.

Everything is ok. Almost ok. You've changed the HWID and the Software Version using RGN_Tool. Don't do this, otherwise your GCD won't be flashed.

I haven't seen anyone using fw_all.bin instead of boot.bin. And in fact it doesn't work unless you compress or truncate fw_all.bin.
Don't confuse using fw_all.bin as boot.bin in RGN and GCD files. These are two quite different techniques with probably different limitations on the boot.bin size.

I did not do anything to HWID. I first did steps 1 - 3 and packed the file as you suggested. All I did with RGN was to load fw_all.bin into it and then generated the GCD. So let see . First load your gupdate.gcd into RGN to get the hwid and then load a reduced fw_all.bin.

Sorry Neil didn't mean to hog kunix. But I an trying to learn this and like you removing the nag and safety lockout would be appreciated by every goldwing nav owner.

    Neil

isn't calunix running V4.60 with the multilingual package. If so he should be able to run NT maps as well.

Sorry, i wasn't suggesting that i had ever heard of anyone using it as an RGN either. I meant that the gupdate method was something you had surely just developed for GW navi flashing. No further explanation required and would probably go over my head anyway. When you've solved this challenge and if ready for another i'm more that happy to put up my SP 2610 as a sacrificial lamb. But I don't wish to sound like a nagging fishwife so i'll shut up again and just watch with interest from the sidelines.

Apparently fw_all.bin's HWID was patched with RGN_Tool before it was compressed.
Try extracting fw_all.bin one more time from the original GCD file and don't check the checkboxes inside the red circle.

I'm talking about NT for StreetPilot 2610/2650. And you're not hogging kunix Mate, don't worry. I was the one butting in too early about another subject altogether. Carlinux's post above clears up the confusion i'm sure.

I extracted fw_bin from gupdate.gcd v4.60. the size is 3359kb. I then ran gfwpack with the verify option. fw_all.bin is now 1344kb Then I loaded it into RGN in the first section at section 800. then I saved it as a gcd file. File attacked.
