No, for that unit 2.9 is the latest. Make sure you get 2.9 for the 2012 and up and not 2.9 for the 2009-10. The one for 2012 and up is 25mb in size. the one for the 2009-10
    is only 6mb

I read that there is an updated version FW5.1 available for down load somewhere but, I can't find it on search all morning. Just updated to FW4.9 but, with new Garmin City Navigator North America 2020, I can't search at all. Search by name is blank, "find" function only shows Honda dealer???

UPDATE: Found a forum with member who had thst elusive FW5.1

Installed it and created a map from new 2021 that I just bought specifically for my wing. Not made for wing, just a City Navigator North America NT 2021.10(?).

Result, no change. POU search still grayed out by name. No search function at all with this map, although system do show correct map installed.

Revert back to 2017 map, function returned for POI near me but, still not for by name.

Search under "find" also returned by address search.

All search function EXCEPT POI by name functional.

So, back to square #1. Any map I tried past 2017 will cause search function to stop working and grayed out keys. Only POI near me are Honda dealerships, nothing else show as POI.

UPDATE: In regards to the POI searching issues, I was told that if you edit/created a map using Zumo and load that map to Nav system using standard CF card, ALL search function, including POI search by name will remain functional as it was in Zumo.

That is, if the map you create come from genuine Garmin map. Unfortunately, I don't have a Zumo so, that makes this hard to prove.

Fortunately, I ran across a member at another Goldwing site who will forward me his edited West coast map that he created from his Zumo for me to try and see if it'll work on my system.

I will try that this weekend report back with results...bike's going back to dealer yet again for another issue...Fl light came on.

    One thing after next...

From my experience with my old 2006 ,FW 4.7,4.8,or 4.9 and my Zumo 590 no POI search. With maps downloaded to my Zumo 590 and resized there still wasn't a POI search feature. As stated previously if the garmin mapset was not created by Garmin for the 2006 thru 2008 US or 2006 thru 2010 Canadian bikes POI search will not work.

Update: For anyone who cares to know.

FYI, I just reinstalled the newest Garmin North America NT 2020 AFTER resizing it down to @1.7Gb.

The POI search by name in "all categories" are grayed out keyboard. That being said, when I searched by separate categories, such as food, drinks, entertainment, etc, I am able to search by "near me" but, NOT by name.

So, my maps are good right now. I just need to be more plan oriented when traveling, to plan all stops ahead of time by searching categories of different stops I plan on making. I need to stop to do these searches any way so, I am good to go with the latest Garmin 2020 map.

What you've reported in the above post is the best that anyone else has also reported about available search options using an 'unofficial' map. However i think what you've been told as quoted below is unlikely because it seems the POI search problem is based in a firmware/map lock-down. Using a map image in any device does not result in any actual changes being made to the map's data in *.img file itself regardless, POIs included. That said, i for one will be interested in seeing your report after you've tested the map supplied by the zumo user.

There's an interesting function of some Garmin devices that's not well-known. Loading two map versions covering the same area and selecting only one as active may allow POI's from the inactive map to be utilized by the active map. In the case of GW navis that would mean combining the two img files with GMapTool or using MapInstall to make a composite gmapsupp.img but unfortunately it's not likely that one set of data could be de-selected in the navi's settings i'd think. It's quite a while since i've used a navi on a GW and don't have access to one presently.

@Butters: I received the Zumo mapset from a fellow from another site, a 2019 map, supposed to be just West coast map.

Well, when I installed it, it was entire U.S map and it too did not have a functioning POI. In fact, my 2020 map had MORE search function than his Zumo based map...theory debunked that installing Zumo map made POI work.

I am satisfied with my 2020 map update, at least most of search function is working.

Only issue with it us that I MUST do all my searching before getting on the bike and save each as favorite, or be as a recently found AND plug it in to GPS prior to riding.

Safety, yes but, heck of an inconvenience. I could mount my car GPS with same exact map and have ALL search function AND ability to search and route WHILE riding...not too safe but, capabilities are available.

I'm going to "trim the fat" down to my local State of North Carolina and see if that would free up CF card space to allow POI search that I am looking for... will report back once I get the experiment done.

We are currently in 30 day "stay at home" order in N.C....except to work. Our V.P of operation, who works from home, says we are "essential" employees and we are to report to work as "normal operation", risking our butts every day so they can have their bonuses.

    @kodiakbear
That's hardly surprising info about the zumo user's 2019 map. What is surprising is that he sent it to you if he'd tried it himself in a GW navi, probably he hadn't and just heard BS from someone else that it works like that (it doesn't as you now know and it's for the reason i gave). If that map's the entire lower 49 or even just all contiguous 48 US states, the 2019.x version was probably the last .img under 2GiB. Current lower states is over by about 10%.

*Seeing as you're going to make a smaller 'short-cut' map img of your 2020 NT, would you like to consider combining it with data from Open Street Maps? You can then see if the OSM can be deselected in settings but still show it's POIs and search functions as is possible with some other devices and map combinations. GMapTool can merge the 2 img files into one gmapsupp.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
*Note: Only use Garmin's .gmap data with MapInstall to make a smaller NT .img file. MapSource doesn't handle modern NT map data well and can result in serious problems in actual use on the road.
