Dear friends, do you have any options to enable hidden features in 1490LMT in US like mp3 player, movie playback and others if possible? Regards

According to my manual your device already has LA,JCV and Speed Limit as well as Routes.
I have managed to get MP3 player and Routes working by loading JAPAN firmware 360 for 1480 combined with US 580 boot.bin (on a nuvi 1300)
You lose some functions like Language Guide and Ability to display (More Data) on Nav Screen.(There are also a few unusable icons.)
You also have to use RGNVoiceEditor to add support for TTS Voices.
The POI Search is also not as nice as US.
Changing to JPN will not really be worth it for you, I think you lose more than you gain.
There is also the risks involved.
You could look at Purchasing de Luxe Firmware, I don't know the specs ? but you can Google for it.

thx so much for your advice. Yes, you're right. I still looking for my best garmin gps. I still love my 1490LMT vs 3790LMT somehow. I need mp3 player because my microphone in the car is broken. Then I intend to use Garmin as my gps, phone device and music player at the same time. Thing is 1490, the sound too bad compares to car's sound system. If 1490 can play mp3, then I can use car sound system with garmin via bluetooth.
If anyone of you have any more advice, I really appreciate about this.

I don't think that Garmin supports Bluetooth Audio currently, or FM Transmitter.
There is an old Garmin 750/760 that can do it.
What about something like an Android device that can do all you want.(Try be4 you buy)

    lol...i have already 2 gps 1490 and 3790. I love bigger screen.
my car is not in garage now so i will test it later. but i remember i can pair my garmin to my dashboard car last time so I can hear sound car system clearly without harsh small speaker within garmin.
regarding Android, i love it like samsung galaxy. but it seems there's none of option to have garmin map in offline mode. It should use data line which is very expensive here to pay.

    thx

The Japanese FW of 3700 gives ability to pair with BT headphones or with the BT car audio system...everything is software....

hello hello friends, it's very hard for me from now on. Each week i have 2 days of weekend, never enough to do anything.
Today I decide to test my old 1490. From beginning, i try to flash CHN v2.5 and device just runs loop from loader screen forever, I can't flash back to original as device appears and disappears from flash software. I just open it, lol, it breaks the face cover. Finally, I can't see anything to mod to reset when I can open this one. I feel sorry about this, although i have 3790 for a pair in case.
Finally within google and many forums, i can manage to have firmware 360 of japan to run. It's very beautiful to my eyes in every options that i feel missing in US version. Then i discover that the sound doesn't work. Looking back this thread and i need to use voiceeditor. Flash again, i can select French and English as my language instead of missing like before, but sound doesn't work at all. I think I did mistake when reconnect the speaker wires. Open case again... too much hard and nothing there. Finally, I flash back to US firmware, sound just works.

My question is, how can you manage to have english sound like English_American Jill? Any tips?

    Thx a lot

Normal. Not very sure why it is happening but it is happening with some asian firmwares. If you try other JPN or CHN FW most probably everything will work fine. Think there should be some other settings somewhere else made to enable the sound but I am not sure where to look at.
