Rather than use command line, load the RGN file by dragging it onto Updater.exe so the GUI opens then try connecting the edge 800 in preboot. The device details should appear in the GUI window and move very quickly to click 'OK' or just hit Enter key on PC keyboard.

PS: Use safe naming rather than gupdate.rgn because *.rgn will force a flash even if the HWIDs of the firmware and device don't match which can hard-brick and likely kill the device. Safe naming format is ONLY XXXX01000xxx.rgn where 'XXXX' is the utilized FIRMWARE'S HWID and 'xxx' is the fw version without decimal point. The '01000' tells Updater.exe to first check that the RGN file name's HWID matches the Device's HWID eliminating the chance of unintended flashing of a foreign boot.bin. Even changing '01000' will force flashing like any naming other than the safe format. GarminCure3.exe will use that safe naming automatically. If using QuickCure3.RGN rename it manually although it may not work with edge, i've not tried it on any outdoor device.

Thank you very much. I have managed to load the firmware and the Edge 800 is now OK :) But the problem was probably with my Windows 10. I created 2 folders RGN with 2 copies of Uploader.exe. The copy in the folder with normal firmware after several trials could not be run and there was a message "This App Can’t Run on your PC" as in the video

But fortunately I tried with the copy in the folder of cure firmware and it could be run. So I copied it into the another folder and this time I could load the normal firmware. I scanned my computer but no viruses was found. Strange thing...
And I formatted the internal memory of Edge 800 with RMPrepUSB. This program displayed info that Fat32 cannot be used because the internal memory is to small. I chcked it in Google - Edge 800 really has only 100 MB internal memory.

You may now need to load a basemap to the internal memory. GarminExpress and WebUpdater won't offer a replacement after the re-formatting. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Or if you thought to backup once you had MSM back before the original formatting with Low Level Format Tool, you can use the original gmapbmap.img from there. BTW, don't use the Windows built-in format tool with Garmin devices, the device's proprietary OS doesn't like it usually. Also NEVER use a Mac.

OK, my friend loaded a map onto micro SD card and made a bicycle trip. Garmin works OK.:) But can you explain why the smartphones have damaged the two navi devices? And is there a safe way to load a .gpx track into older Garmin bicycle navi during a trip?

Even if you haven't loaded a basemap to the device's internal memory it will still 'work' with a detail map. However without a basemap if you zoom out and try to pan the device may freeze or crash. The detail map cannot be used beyond a certain level and that point is where the device tries to utilize the basemap which is the only map stored internally. All detail maps are accessed only when on a media card.

It wasn't me who suggested that connecting a smartphone caused the devices to be bricked. Another member thought that you may have connected by USB and somehow fritzed the USB socket or PCB components i think. I'm at a loss to explain how connecting anything wirelessly could cause such problems and in any case i'm not aware that edge 800 uses a smartphone at all, neither by wireless nor USB. I thought only ANT+ sensor devices could be connected to it.

I guess you mean directly transferring a GPX from one device to another. I don't think there'd be any practical way to load a GPX file while on a ride unless you stopped and used a laptop or tablet as an intermediate host. I'm not a cyclist however and nor do i have access to an edge 800 to check at present. Maybe the manual has some info:

Windows 10 can format FAT32?

Yes, W10 inbuilt formatter will default to FAT32 for cards up to 32GB with exFAT optional. Thereafter it will only offer exFAT for larger cards.
Either way it wouldn't be my preferred option, if you need FAT32 on larger cards e.g. GPS or cheap phones without exFAT licensing I would use FAT32 Format utility

I did every steps from the first page to my GPSMAP 62s , It patched FW successfully.

But my GPSMAP 62s is still not booted , it always stuck at Garmin Logo.

It is also unable to go into pre-boot mode.

Anyone can help with this issue.

What version of the Firmware do you have.
The latest is 7.20

How do I reset all settings back to factory defaults?
Setup > Reset > Reset All Settings.

How do I Hard Reset my GPSMAP 62?
Power the GPSMAP 62 off.
Press and hold the (Page) and (Enter) buttons simultaneously.
Press and release the (Power) button.
The GPSMAP 62 will begin the boot process.
Release the (Page) and (Enter) buttons after backlight illuminates.
When prompted "Erase all user data?", select [Erase].



Hidden Test Pages

Hardware/Software ID and Display Test:
GPSMAP 62 Powered Off
Hold (Enter) + (Power) to boot into diagnostic screen
Press (Page) to Open next test screen
Press (Quit) to Open previous test screen
Press (Mark) to Cycle camera screen On/Off (62sc/62stc)
Press (Enter) to Activate test options
Hold (Power) to Exit Diagnostic Menu


Error Logs:
Open the Trip Computer page.
Press (Right) until final Trip Computer data page is displayed.
Press (Up) > (Right) > (Down) > (Left).
A diagnostic screen will appear displaying a list of recently logged exceptions.
The lower section of the page will display current memory usage and stats.
Select an exception from the list to view register dumps for that exception.
Repeat (Up) > (Right) > (Down) > (Left) to enter the Logging Control screen.
Press the (Quit) button to exit each diagnostic mode.

My GPSMAP 62s is stucked at "Garmin" Logo as soon as I turn it ON and can do nothing.
I tried to flash the cure firmware with GarminCure3 as mention at the 1st page, it has error with 7.20 version.

I track down from 7.1/7.0/.. until 5.90 version and found that there is No error after flashing 5.90 Firmware.
So I keep 5.90 version at the moment.

But the device is not boot, It stucks at the Logo all the times. Master Hard Reset (Enter+Page+Power) doesn't work at all.

Also it is unable to go into Pre-boot mode as well. (Press UP+Connect USB more than 30sec)

After start reading for 2 days , I have no idea how to fix it right now.
