Hi Catymag, i try GarminCure3 from first time, procedure from first post, make cure "This is a GCD file. Patchable HWIDs: 1101 *Processing HWID 1101 Processing OK :)" After software loading i got this message error. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]
after device reboot, message is GIR Checksums: 0xe79e5f0. i also try few versions of firmwares.

If you use Windows 10 then go to Pc with Win 7 or XP, becouse win 10 sometime have problem with updater.exe and give error like you have.
I have the same problem and i can repair device only on Pc with XP and try with different version of prepusb to format device, but i forget what version of prepusb format device.

How to be sure which ver is this device Garmin Nuvi 3790, serial 245xxxxx9. My notebook is windows 8.1 maybe good idea will be try load on windows XP?

I think "GIR Version Mismatch" comes from a wrong flashed boot.bin, what did brick this nuvi ?

Open garmindevice.xml and you will see what hwid you have if is 1101
p.s.
Delete your serial from your post.

RMPrepUSB V2.1.656 has always worked fine in Win8/8.1 64bit for me.

If your GarminDevice.xml file is also corrupted, you can see the HWID in preboot with G7toWin [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...].
