George, the problem is that we have to assume that ppl wanting to attempt this sort of flashing have at least a basic knowledge of it. There is a 'Flashing 1.01' level that even proceeds 'Flashing for Dummies', which is why i don't want to do an even more detailed tut than i have. There are already infos in other threads, and its impossible to repeat basic stuff over and over in individual threads. e.g. info on flashing rgn files is available in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], or how to do an nv back up: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. But, we still want to help as much as possible.

Like dasil has suggested, do a bit of experimentation and self-education, all the tools are here on Noeman.
If you get totally lost, then as i've said if you need more help on the basic stuff just send me a PM .

1- Is there any disadvantage in doing this process at the moment?
2- I've read in some other place that gps accuracy gets really unstable with the 3490 firmware. Is it true?
3- What are the main advatages of flashing 3790 with 3490 firmware?

Sorry for all these noob questions but you better know what could go wrong before trying something new.

    @sempracurtir
    1 - See 2.
2 - Some 37x0's suffer inaccuracy after conversion, but they do regain accuracy if re-converted back to 37x0. The following thread is linked in Post #1 here too, you should read it: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Probably due to 2 or 3 different GPS receivers in 37x0, they maybe handle the 34 gps fw relatively better or worse.
3 - Maybe personal likes/dislikes come into this and opinions vary. Most ppl refer the 34 menus and extra features such as Dashboards, Exit Services, Android Smartphone Link. Also you can enable mp3 and video players with 34, can't in 37.

A big help at this point.

Gosh, if I am successful in getting this all figured out and can do it at will, I may even put together a step by step procedure for us "dummies" to follow. Sometimes a different point of view can be helpful.

    Thanks,

Well I'm beginning my own 3760 to 3490 conversion process - I love a challenge! I consider this therapy to help make up for not ordering a 3597 last month during Garmin's website fiasco (I had one in my cart too, but rationalized I really didn't' need it, even at $191). But I also admit that this is a little like reading a different language. However I've done similar things to other electronic toys in the past, so far with success. Reading 100 pages of posts is not fun, but I won't be flashing anything until I'm sure I sort of know what I'm doing....

Successfully flashed and updated..... except I have the "American English" issue for voice recognition. My original unit is a 3760t. I installed the American English ASR via web updater - but looks like I'm missing a similar file(s) needed for my maps (2014.10) - I assume I likely have a similar issues for 3D, which I haven't tested yet. I'll fix this in the morning.... hopefully I don't have the accuracy issue with my unit.... I hope not - I don't want to have to flash it back

My 3760/34XX has 4GB of internal memory. Prior to reflashing it, it already had 2014.10 maps (NA map file and the junction view file from torrent). As I now wade through this thread (and others) to figure out what additional files I need to get it fully working, I'm concerned about having enough memory.

What I think I need to add:
ASR / SRX: I have the ASR folder already from using WebUpdater to add the English file. Just add the additional map-specific ASR & SRX files (which I've downloaded from the 2014.10 thread)
3D: gmap3d.img from 2014.10 goes into the hidden .System directory
SID: Multiple SID files go into this newly created folder in the .System directory
DB: Map/Unit specific D3397090A.DB goes into the existing SQlite folder

Am I missing anything? And thoughts on making it all fit? I had already pruned the voices down to just English ones. I'm sure this is a standard question/issue, so I'll do some digging around....

After 48 hours of intense reading and learning, I'll have forgotten it all within a few days....

ASR/SRX: These files are specific for your unit and to the map, so provided you've dl'ed the correct ASR'2' files to match your NA 2014.10 map they will work. You also need to have the en_US.srd in the ASR folder to go with your US TTS voice/s, and that should have been offered by WebUpdater.

    3D, SID & DB: That's all correct.

Default 3760t Conversion: Voice Command "Find Place" doesn't work

Only 4GB on the 3760t is a pain - but I think I've managed to find/install all the supporting files for 3D and to get voice recognition working. I moved the main NA 2014.10 map file out of main memory, and it now resides on the SD card. Oh, and my onboard memory is FULL! We're talking 123MB left.
    But....One little issue......

The "Find Place" command causes the unit to turn off. All other voice commands seem to be working fine. After saying "Find Place", I briefly get the next screen (blue), and sometimes I get the voice instructions to begin.
But the unit then turns off.

Any ideas? This is one of the more useful commands....

    thanks...

Do you get a message saying this feature is not available in American English? Check the following.
Do you have the en_US.srd file in the ASR folder, and using either English_American_Jack.vpm or English_American_Jill.vpm TTS voice file? Also have you got either a complete map of US lower 49 or a complete NA? [i.e. no tiles missing, not even one].

If all seems correct as above, redownload and replace all the ASR/SRX ensuring they are the ASR'2' files for 2012> devices, not the ASR'1' 2011 files.
