Tried by myself. I'm using GarminLifetimeUpdater to update maps. I flashed my 3790 to 3490 and now I'm able to download all files for 3490 (map, JCV, SID Sqlite etc.). Program sees my Nuvi as 3490. I'm not sure if it will last forever, but now it works.

    catymag:

dunno why didnt work for me, i believe i waited for about 5min, i did see the loader screen after several restarts by myself, but later on stuck at "loading map"...or maybe i need to wait longer there...
i think for the next update i'll just use updater with fw.rgn to be safe, almost felt like ive bricked the unit

You have to wait - I waited more than 5 min and it was at first on the LOADING MAPS screen.
After about 7 minuter I was starting to get nervous, but the screen change to installing system or something like that and then after a while it loaded with new firmware.
So patience people - and full battery of course.

thanks for the reply rex, btw r u guys able to go into .system from garmin in my computer? because i noticed my garmin icon is not there anymore when i connect the device to pc, i have to click "open device to view files" from the usb pop up in order to view the files, but cant get into .system no matter what i do. safely remove usb device from pc doesnt display garmin anymore either nor Disk Management (control panel/computer management), webupdater is still functional, im not sure at this point if my unit is having some problem due to the several fw updating, tried to clear all user data, clear nonvol dont seem to help, and ".VolumeIcon.icns, autorun, nuvi_drive" files are missing, even when i copy/paste from my back up, they still disappear the next time i connect the device, is this normal?

From navigation screen press on speed icon > press and hold center (where is the big speedometer) secret developer menu will appear > go to MTP Settings and choose Mass Storage mode.
Restart nuvi and when you connect with USB cable the .System will be visible.

Deleted - I got it to work. Just a quick question, I somehow managed to forget taking a backup. Will I have problems restoring back to 3790 stock?

You will not have problems restoring back to 3790 stock, but you must know how to do this.
If you didn't delete files from your Nuvi you will find most of them after flashing to 3490.
Some files are changed after flashing, but can be restored.
