I was hoping for the best of both worlds.

But now, I can make my 3790 become a 3490 and use the new Garmin Smartphone Link software.

ok, so i thought i can just use webupdater to install latest 34xx fw (4.40) on my 3750 nuvi (which was flashed to 34xx 3.60 fw), it end up stuck at garmin logo screen displaying my unit model 3750 underneath it, pc wont even recognize it as storage mode. so i felt i should flash it back to 3.60.rgn with updater and see what happens, but with the same result. i then thought maybe i need to flash it back to 37xx.rgn fw with updater but end up showing an error screen, felt wtf but then noticed something while updating (prior to error), that it displays 4.40 fw with bold letter.. so i used 4.40rgn with updater this time, finally things is back to normal, and reset nonvol afterward. thought my unit might end up in trash....

The latest firmware for 34xx adds a new feature called Smartphone Link. I came across a blog that explains some undocumented and powerful features that Smartphone link which enable device to receive results from any Google Search. Interesting read if nothing else.
If interested in reading here is link.

How do I get to inventory page on 34xx?
Have tried battery, speedo, voice methods etc but none of those screens show hardware id.

I updated My 3790/34xx with webupdater to 4.40 without any problems, but it's a bit slow to load the new firmware, let it restart itself , it needs a lot.

Press on battery icon (main menu page) for about 5 seconds.
Press "Next" for 3 times , you see red color page , just press right lower coner for 5 times , you see "Next" - kepp pressing then you see inventory page.

Press "Start Test" then press "More".
    Now you get inventory page.
Notice the first line - Boot BLK Bxxxx-00
    xxxx = hwid.

    Hi caty,
It's good time to change your basemap to 5.01 now.

Yes, after downloading update on webupdater, unplugging and switching on the unit, the Garmin logo screen appears. Now after that the unit looks to be doing nothing.... be patient.
After a few minutes of static screen the 'loader' term appears at top of screen and the firmware load begins.
From there it is a few short minutes to finishing updating.
    Another successful update here.

Did you tried it or only heard about it, because I am thinking to buy a LifeTime Map update card and I do not want to lose my money (don't say use a free update...)
