Same here but it doesn't bother me since it doesn't affect the functionality as 3490.
I am experiencing the same issue with Garmin screen. It moves in up-right position during boot and from bottom-to up when inserting USB (white rectangle has a splitted view for few seconds). My gut feeling is that logo splash screen doesn't have the proper resolution. I'd like to know if this problem is common to everyone.

hello everyone!
Thanks a lot to all of you who used the time to create/feed this thread. I took my time to read attentively to all replies and decided to give my 3790 a shot... Apparently I've been stuck in a "shooting my foot" scenario. I re-read countless times and followed all the instructions, but 2 things came up: 1- I don't have a gupdate.gcd file in my Nuvi's system folder (could it be for having the most recent updates on?), so I have nothing to erase; 2- when I try to install the 34xx fw in my GPS, I hold my finger on the upper left side of the screen and see the small "system loading" info above the garmin logo, but garmin updater v2.8.0 doesn't recognize by USB device... i held my finger for several minutes and tryed countless times to repeat the procedure... If I'm not cleared on what's not going right I'll give up.. Thanks for any help!
Thank you very much for your help voyager56!
I read about Garmin Lifetime Updater, but chose not to uninstall it and instead stopped its process and put it into Kaspersky's "jail" of untrusted apps. Maybe I should uninstall it, after all its easy to re-install. My USB cable is ok as the pc recognizes the Nuvi and offers to open windows explorer. As for the drivers, if the pc recognizes it, shouldn't it be installed already? I'll give your advice a try and uninstall GLU and check if I need to install any drivers for the GPS. I'll post my results...
Best regards!
errrr! Nop, zilch, nothing, nada 8-(
I uninstalled GLU, but don't even have an option to update nuvi's driver as latest is loaded, yet, nothing changed the scenario. My 3790 has the latest SW 4.70 e FW 2.60. Either this is the reason for my misfortune or the GarminUpdater 2.8.0 is corrupted, because it doesn't detect anything (sometimes i was holding my finger over the top-left of the screen for 15mins - well, if you're doing something else while you wait you don't get bored... just frustrated lol).
Can anyone give me links for new downloads for the updater and *.gcd that you successfully used for your conversion?
1. Execute updater.exe. Make sure you checked "USB device" on Updater.
2. Turn off Nuvi and disconnect USB cable from PC.
3. Connect Nuvi to PC using USB cable.
4. When Garmin logo appears put finger on the left upper corner on LCD screen and hold it.
5. When Nuvi goes in preboot mode it will be recognized by updater. Press OK on updater.
Hi voyager56!
yes, that's exactly the procedure that I've been following. Maybe this can sound weird for everyone that succeeded by doing this way, but it doesn't crank with my unit. I really am a very methodical guy and take my time to read everyone's experiences before advancing (also like to share my own experiments). That's why I think that perhaps my updater is corrupted, as all steps go ok and only this piece of sw doesn't recognize or "wink" to my 3790 and a few seconds later, though, both windows offers to open mass storage unit and anti-virus to check on it. I have both updater and generated rgn file in the same folder as well. I believe by all the readings that being an LMT edition has nothing to do with the mishap, so I'm losing my hope of making it.
@webalf
Try another computer, WinXP SP3
You can try this:
1. Execute updater.exe. Make sure you checked "USB device" on Updater.
2. Turn off Nuvi and disconnect USB cable from PC.
3. Put finger on the left upper corner on LCD screen and hold it.
4. With other hand connect Nuvi to PC using USB cable
5. When Nuvi goes in preboot mode it will be recognized by updater. Press OK on updater.
p.s.
You can also try on step 3. put finger in the midle of the screen and hold it.
