lolypop000 This is not help me. I overflashed asian firmware through Updater. Restart Nuvi. Then flashed EU 5.70 firmware.
The same result - I have some incorrect symbols at the end of GarminDevice.xml file.
The Hard resset was done too.
to Giomen Deleting of EULA dirrectory didn't help too.

    Do you have new ideas?

do you have flash version of the firmware that you had before.

Thus, for example.: CHN firmware (preboot mode) -> 5.40 (preboot mode) -> and then if everything is ok -> 5.70

PS: If you use more alt.fw, you have to try it with them

    1. Power OFF your Nuvi. Attach it USB
    2. Press and keep holding the most left upper corner of the LCD screen and Power button
    3. DON NOT release your finger either from Power button nor from LCD screen (keep both pressed until the procedure ends)
    4. You will notice Nuvi boots in Pre-Boot mode.

It seems me that this is the same as flash by .rgn file through the Updater

    1. I flashed EU510_SG280.rgn first. The device loaded and I have the GarminDevice.xml with correct symbols.
    2. I flashed the original EU 5.10 rgn file. The device loaded too and works but the GarminDevice.xml has the incorrect characters in the end again:

When you flash to SG setup all function to your country,language,voice....
Then go outside to lock satellite.
After that flash to EU and clear nonvol.

I had the same and I solved it, I've already replied to your previous post, you must flash it with normal gupdate.gcd in internal memory
.rgn with updater or gupdate in sd wont solve the device.xml chinese characters in EULA problem.
You can read about it on Garniak forum too in this thread from pag 9

    Sorry guys but no success.
    What I did:
    1. Format my Nuvi
    2. Copy my backup files from PC to Nuvi
    3. Start Nuvi - it works, but the GarminDevice.xml has strange symbols at the end (as I wrote befor)
    4. Place the Gupdate.gcd file with alternative SG firmware into System folder of Nuvi
    5. Turn on the Nuvi and it start to flash. Flashed good, so I could test it with alternative SG firmware. It works and GarminDevice.xml is look good.
    6. Place the Gupdate.gcd file with original EU 5.10 firmware into System folder of Nuvi
    7. Turn on the Nuvi , it start to flash. Flashed good. Everything works but GarminDevice.xml has strange symbols at the end again.

I have tried to use another original firmwares (3.90 - 5.40) but obtain the same corrupt GarminDevice.xml file.
