Is there any suggest solution to make HWID 1091 able to use THAI JCV and THAI TTS?Quote:

Hi, just updated my brother's nuvi250 and it got updated with 2x5 fw (actually it already was 2x5, since it was v.7.50). Does this means both series are fully compatible and, if so, which other software should I get to improve the device functionality, if any? Thanks!
I sugest you to remain on this firmware, the risk to brick it is very high..
Just curious, is there any update for 205W?
Any software update for 205W, please?

Use Web Updater for upgrade your firmware.
Alternative to WU,...read post #1 (I move and merge your 2 posts in 3rd correct)
Or link firmware:
HWID 0827 (US/EU)
HWID 1091 MTK (asian models)Code:www.garmin.com/software/nuvi2x5_GCDFile__760.gcd
Warning: search HWID your model,please...or bricked your device ;)Code:www.garmin.com/software/nuvi2x5_GCDFile-MTK__760.gcd
Bye,bye

First use webupdater if no downloads then look in your garmindevice.xml if you have Hwid that roger write.
I see that you ar from Indonesia, if you buy nuvi for your country region then you will have different HWID.
If you have different hwid that this in roger post, then provide us your hwid number and we will help you ;)
Look for your garmindevice.xml in your nuvi.
In the first lines you can get your device HWID
In this case 1376 is the HWID of my nuvi -Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
-<Device xmlns:dtlx="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDeviceExtensions/DataTypeLocation/v1" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevicev2.xsd" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2">
-<Model>
<PartNumber>006-B1376-00</PartNumber>
Different nuvi 2x5 chipsets get different firmware, so you must use the right one or you brick your device.
MTK version is 1074, other one is 851.
You can flash it using the sd, remove any gupdate.gcd in nuvi, put the new gupdate.gcd in a Garmin folder and insert the sd in nuvi. It will flash the firmware.
Regarding regions:
Regions can be different in old Nuvis like 2xx or 3xx/6xx. Probably region 41 doesn't exist in these old devices, but I'm not sure.Quote:

This thread is old, links are dead (removed now) if you need a file ask please and I'll reupload.
Also you may to quick check GPS chipset type in menu in device info. For MTK it must be 2.00m and for not-MTK is 4.10b (or lower version with the same letter b at the end).Quote:

I'm guessing you're actually asking what's the difference between the variously named *.gcd files, such as "nuvi2x5_regionfileonly__xxx.gcd" or "nuvi2x5_GCDFile__xxx.gcd" or indeed even "gupdate.gcd". In fact, if the firmware version [xxx] is the same then all those files are identical, but intended for different update methods.Quote:

They actually do exist in 2/3/6xx, and can be erased, but effectively can't be copied because the backups always are empty [zero bytes]. This is unfortunate because in those units rgn41 contains the valuable info existing in latter units which can dump 41. In this case catymag is using the term 2xx in it's official Garmin description for the 2x0 series but that doesn't include 2x5 and your unit can in fact dump 41. Just confirm you have a file size of 4096 KiB in 41.bin.Quote:

The term 'region file' in the context of firmware update GCD files means it was to be used in conjunction with WebUpdater and now also Garmin Express probably which access that file directly from the Garmin server. Then WU/GE will transfer it to your nuvi 205's Garmin folder, renaming it gupdate.gcd in the process. Also, you could simply just download the *.gcd file from Garmin provided you have the correct link then drag it to WebUpdater to do the same thing manually. Placing gupdate.gcd into the nuvi's Garmin folder to replace an existing file is an even more manual way of doing it and has the same effect as putting it in sd:/Garmin folder, but importantly the latter method as recommended by Caty is much safer because if the file is corrupt you won't brick the nuvi because you can simply take the card out if the unit freezes on boot or boot loops, and without the card it'll then boot normally. GCD files from Garmin are unlikely to be corrupt, but a GUPDATE.GCD obtained elsewhere might be. Whichever method you use, the firmware is updated from the gupdate.gcd file on the next boot cycle.
Another way to update the fw is to use update.exe to load the appropriately named *.rgn file directly to the correct nv region on the unit. In simple terms, that file is the gcd file less a few bytes.
