Hi... I have additional question regarding this street pilot, so as Windows Phone has it's version of Garmin Street Pilot does the above steps applicable for adding the Garmin map into the device?
I remember with GMXT either in WM or Symbian the steps are prety much the same to add the map.

    Thank you

For windows phone, the garmin streetpilot is for on-demand (not on-board) type, thus the maps data will not be stored inside your phone.

    Hi.
    ..about Safety Alarms.

I made some tests and the results are (until now):
Alarms generated by POI LOADER works on StreetPilot when loaded in this local:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The image bellow shows the warning on left down and the icon included on GPI file

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

There is a problem yet. The warning sound are tree beeps only. I can't figure out how to play the messages (mp3 or wav) included in GTI.

    Best regards,
    going on tests...

    Hi guys,

anyone heard about the strange thing that the streetpilot app for iphone runs smoothly on a Jailbreaked iPhone 3GSs up until iOS 5.01, but doesn't want to load on iOS 5.1?

I have this thing on two separate iPhones, and I try to locate the problem (apparently I'm not the only one with this issue). I'm sure the garmin app is compatible with iOS 5.1. I'm sure I do everything correctly, since on iOS 4.3.3 and 5.0.1 the app works neat. But I just don't have any idea how to proceed, where to look to find the source of the problem. It is clear that there's an issue between the iOS 5.1, the Jaibreak and the garmin app. But where?...

Anyone heard about this? Any ideas maybe? Thank you guys!

Before you start, you will require - Installous, iFile (trial version is ok).

Step 1 : Download and install "Garmin U.S.A. 2.0" from Installous (not Garmin StreetPilot 6.5.5).
Step 2 : Use iFile to look for the folder where it is installed and go to the ".system" folder (dotSystem not System). It should be in /var/mobile/Applications/???numbers???/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System
Step 3 : Delete the .img files in the .System folder (you will have to download new map files)
Step 4 : Use iFile to modify the /etc/hosts file (putting the 127.0.0.1 triplew.garmin.com and gold.garmin.com) & Save. Make sure you check the ownership.
Step 5 : Restart iPhone and open the Garmin program.

Note 1. If you see "Activation of maps require internet connection" it means you didnt delete the .img file in the .System folder.
Note 2. If you see "Authentication failure, must buy original apps from appstore" it means you didnt modify the /etc/hosts file properly.

Step 6 : Use a computer to download a map for your country. Search for the latest map.

Note 3. There are 2 types of maps. Unlocked or locked. Read more on how to unlock a map using a keygen.

Step 7 : Insert the map in the /var/mobile/Applications/???numbers???/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System folder. The map should be named gmapprom.img (some maps you download may be named gmapsupp.img just rename it)

Note 4. If the map is a locked map u have to create a gmapprom.unl file to unlock the map. Put it in the same .System folder.

Step 8 : Finally, make sure the gmapprom.img file has the correct ownership – i.e. Owner mobile, Group mobile, User read write execute, Group read execute, World read execute.

Now your Garmin USA should work on yr iPhone.
(I just got mine working this morning – so if there are any errors on my instructions please correct me)
Ok, omcx123, you are the man (woman?). This is brilliant. I worked it through several times with no luck. Turns out, you must edit the hosts file before putting your downloaded custom maps in the .System folder, even if it is unlocked. It seemed to re lock my maps, if that is possible, if I put them in first. Also, just to add some detail, while editing the hosts file, when I clicked save, it saved it to a temp folder on my PC, not to back to my iPhone. So I had to choose Save As and save it to a known location on my computer, then drag that file into my /etc/ folder.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, and to omcx123 for putting it all in a easy to follow step by step tutorial.

BTW, I am using the brand new Thailand v12.1 just released last month. Now I would really love to get Junction View working, since it has never worked in my nuvi 3790 US.
