I have no problem with my Jailbreak at all. Thats not the issue for me. I even have NO problem loading ******* .ipa's or ******* apps. I can get the Garmin App to load no Problem. I have even modified the file so it doesnt call back to Garmin looking for authorization and crash the app. BUT, I cannot get the map to show up no matter where I put it. Thats why I was hoping someone could give me an actual file structure that doesnt include Apps-USA because for the life of me... I dont have anything like that in my Iphone. I have an Applications but not an Apps-USA. I use CyberDuck for SSH'ing to the Iphone.

    Checksum47 i understand your frustration. I am using an iPhone4 5.0.1 Jailbroken.

Before you start, you will require - Installous, iFile (trial version is ok).

Step 1 : Download and install "Garmin U.S.A. 2.0" from Installous (not Garmin StreetPilot 6.5.5).
Step 2 : Use iFile to look for the folder where it is installed and go to the ".system" folder (dotSystem not System). It should be in /var/mobile/Applications/???numbers???/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System
Step 3 : Delete the .img files in the .System folder (you will have to download new map files)
Step 4 : Use iFile to modify the /etc/hosts file (putting the 127.0.0.1 triplew.garmin.com and gold.garmin.com) & Save. Make sure you check the ownership.
Step 5 : Restart iPhone and open the Garmin program.

Note 1. If you see "Activation of maps require internet connection" it means you didnt delete the .img file in the .System folder.
Note 2. If you see "Authentication failure, must buy original apps from appstore" it means you didnt modify the /etc/hosts file properly.

Step 6 : Use a computer to download a map for your country. Search for the latest map.

Note 3. There are 2 types of maps. Unlocked or locked. Read more on how to unlock a map using a keygen.

Step 7 : Insert the map in the /var/mobile/Applications/???numbers???/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System folder. The map should be named gmapprom.img (some maps you download may be named gmapsupp.img just rename it)

Note 4. If the map is a locked map u have to create a gmapprom.unl file to unlock the map. Put it in the same .System folder.

Step 8 : Finally, make sure the gmapprom.img file has the correct ownership – i.e. Owner mobile, Group mobile, User read write execute, Group read execute, World read execute.

Now your Garmin USA should work on yr iPhone.
(I just got mine working this morning – so if there are any errors on my instructions please correct me)

    @Checksum
lol... at what point were you going to mention that you were working with an different app? No wonder you had a different file structure and your description of it made no sense. You were fortunate in the extreme that omcx123 had just installed the other 'Garmin USA' and recognised your file structure. To not say that you had dl'ed something else and then expect help in this thread is not the best approach imo. I applaude omxc123 for his intuition, and his patience in micromanaging you in that way, but the fact that almost everyone else ignored you speaks for itself. I wish i hadn't bothered too.

Best not lecture me on helping others and how this community works before you check my other posts. HE had an OBLIGATION to check he was posting in the right thread and he didn't, this thread is named 'How to install any Garmin map on Iphone Garmin StreetPilot'. I made reference in more than one post to the app in post #1. He remained silent as to what he was working with, had he said straight up that he had an different app dl from elsewhere i would not even had tried to help him, but only simply because i couldn't. I wasted time on him that i could have spent helping others. Are we supposed to be psychic? No... but you had the advantage of just having loaded the other app yourself on the same day you replied to him. I gave you credit for that, even though both he and you were OT as it turned out. This continues to be OT so if you or he wish to take it further then PM me.

Anyone have a solution for below.

I'm using custom map and everything works except for address search. The streetname appears while typing the name, but after clicking on the streetname it just says that the street doesn't exist...
My app doesn't crash, it just says that the street wasn't found..

System directory and I can see it in the application.

When I try to use the go to address function the app is shortlising the correct addresses from the map, but when I click on one to start the routing the app crashes.

Does anyone have any ideas where to start troubleshooting this?

    @Neil

I was not lecturing you but since you are using that tone let me say:

    We are not off topic.

The 1st version of Garmin StreetPilot when released on the iPhone was using online maps without maps stored on the phone.
The 2nd version of Garmin StreetPilot was with maps stored on the phone - this is the normal StreetPilot version on all other garmin devices.

Because this was confusing, Garmin stopped using the word StreetPilot for the 2nd version.

Therefore for all devices (Nuvi, 34xx, 5800, etc) the program is known as Garmin StreetPilot except for the iPhone which it is only known as “Garmin”.

The reason @Checksum47 did not recognize the folder structure is because he is not using iExplorer

    The actual folder is /var/mobile/Applications/???numbers???/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System

But iExplorer will actually display a simplified structure which is Apps/USA/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System making @Checksum47 confused as he could not find a USA folder.

By the way, the topic title is wrong because everyone from the 1st post is talking about “How to install any Garmin map on Iphone”. Not Garmin StreetPilot,. The title must have been made before Garmin dropped the StreetPilot word.

You may know more about Garmin but your instructions are not clear and I am wondering how many people you actually helped. At least I have helped one. That may be more than you have helped after yr 900+ posts.

I was not the one who started with that 'tone': "Oh comeon Neil, Checksum47 did post his topic in the right place - Garmin Map on Iphone. You gota help him so that he can help others. Thats how this community works!". Sure sounds like a lecture to me, exclamation mark and all. And i did try to help him, i simply just couldn't help using the crippled/incomplete info he gave. Read on.
    We are not off topic.
We can argue that all day, really doesn't matter now. Be aware that Mods/Admins regularly prune from threads, OT posts (not relating to the subject/topic as defined by the title/post #1), and non-information/non-helpful posts (those not adding to the knowledge of either poster and/or readers) including thanking posts AND exchanges such as this that have degenerated into personal discussion. Accordingly, much of this may end up on 'the cutting room floor' which is also why i said if you wanted to take it further to PM me. However, you chose to respond publicly. At first i was prepared to laugh it off while reading your assertions with my BS meter going off the scale, until i got to the last line and your criticism of "my" instructions, and your suggestion that you may have helped more people with 1 post than i have with 900+. As untrue as the former obviously is, and as unlikely as the latter might be, my innate sense of justice has kicked in and so i decided to reply.

The 2nd version of Garmin StreetPilot was with maps stored on the phone - this is the normal StreetPilot version on all other garmin devices.
Dunno where you got any of that from... there are still 2 terms used by Garmin & Apple: 'Garmin StreetPilot on Demand' and 'Garmin StreetPilot' (on Board), and which came first the chicken or the egg.

and the '2nd version' is not the 'normal StreetPilot version for other Garmin devices', Nuvi or others. More on this below.
Because this was confusing, Garmin stopped using the word StreetPilot for the 2nd version.
No they didn't, see above, and Garmin USA, Garmin N. America & Garmin Western Europe also have this Description immediately after the title:
"Download Garmin StreetPilot® XXX and give your iPhone® or iPad® the best in GPS navigation with ..etc."
    Info:

Therefore for all devices (Nuvi, 34xx, 5800, etc) the program is known as Garmin StreetPilot except for the iPhone which it is only known as “Garmin”
No. Different fw & soft even on inter-related models of garmin units. None currently known as SP in any event. 5800 is a nokia smartphone (ok, not so smart now), running on S60V5 and it or any other Symbian device including those with earlier or later platforms, does not run an app named StreetPilot. GarminMobileXT runs on symbian up to S^3, but is totally different sw, and not known as SP. We will probably never see any more Garmin Symbian apps. Rumour has it that there may be an on-board one for Android later this year: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Maybe they'll call it StreetPilot, who knows, but i think they might use the SP reference in some way for android. Garmin may not have had much say in it, but it's not used in Telstra's Garmin Navigator (on demand) android app in Australia, currently the only garmin android app worldwide. Info:
    Code:

The origin of the StreetPilot name is from a range of highly respected legacy hardware by Garmin. For example, some Info:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
I would guess that Garmin wisely decided to use that well known and trusted name for their iphone app because of the name's 'Street Cred', perhaps. And they are still using it in either the name or description of their iphone apps. So they are actually ONLY using it for iphone at this time and not for their navigator units' software or anything else. Not vice versa as you stated.
The reason @Checksum47 did not recognize the folder structure is because he is not using iExplorer
And that diminishes his responsibility, how? Again, why did he not disclose that he was using an app dl'ed from elsewhere, and further why he did not mention that he was using an altogether different file explorer to that specified in Post #1 ie iExplorer as you acknowledged.
    The actual folder is /var/mobile/Applications/???numbers???/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System
But iExplorer will actually display a simplified structure which is Apps/USA/garmin-nav.app/storage-usa/.System making @Checksum47 confused as he could not find a USA folder.
At the risk of being repetitive, isn't it obvious who should tell who what so as to avoid ANY confusion.
By the way, the topic title is wrong because everyone from the 1st post is talking about “How to install any Garmin map on Iphone”. Not Garmin StreetPilot,. The title must have been made before Garmin dropped the StreetPilot word.
If you think it's wrong, hit the report button on Post #1 and state your case. But bear in mind that Garmin have not 'dropped the StreetPilot word' at all. And have another look, maybe some people used shorthand somewhere, but many Posts mention SP.
You may know more about Garmin but your instructions are not clear and I am wondering how many people you actually helped. At least I have helped one. That may be more than you have helped after yr 900+ posts.
And that's what tipped me over the edge to reply. They are NOT 'my' instruction. Read my replies to Checksum47, the 'instructions' by me are in accordance with and echo the very clear and understandable instructions in P1.... clear & understandable PROVIDED you are using the modded app from this thread and iExplorer and not some other unknowns, undisclosed by the poster. By criticising 'my' instructions, you are indirectly criticising the original author and translator of the instructions. That would be respectively neadrenalin & catymag. Both bl***y geniuses in my opinion. This is the original Russian post in e-trex by neadrenalin:

Only done 2 months ago, just before this thread start, still the StreetPilot word used, and by a man who is a God among guys who are absolute GPS fanatics. See post #9 for example.. ddabcd277 is no slouch in the garmin world and note his opinion.
It was catymag who flicked Checksum47 in the first place with a dismissive reply "Read Post n1----". I should have followed her lead but i felt a bit sorry for the guy because he was obviously fumbling around. Big mistake...his replies to me bordered on derision and abuse. That's why i gave up: Post 70, i finished up with "That's me done, sorry". Ok, he was frustrated, but obviously in retrospect not prepared to even help himself by being forthright as to what he was working with. Also i don't think he may have done much better initially with your instructions BTW, although yours were mostly just as clear as post 1 in my opinion. I say mostly because Notes 3 & 4 are wrong as far as most modern garmin maps are concerned, they cannot be fully unlocked with a keygen and they remain 'unauthenticated' because of the garmin gma protection. They need a *gma file as well as a *unl file, or they have to be unlocked with Fast Image Unlocker. As to his understanding of your post, this is his reply to you BEFORE he edited it:
Finally, some instructions that are clear and have a valid file structure. Thank You omcx123. The only thing Im still confused abut is the ownership thing. Do I do that before I load the maps or do I have to do that after they are in the App. *And I dont know how to change the ownership to begin with. Do i need a special program to do that or should I just right click on the desktop and then go to get info?
    (*Emphasis added)
So, had he read this thread at all before he posted initially? Or even after that. Probably not. Or even read your post fully before he made that reply. That subject has been done to death in this thread. And it was well covered in your tut too.
As to whether any of my posts have been helpful, anyone can judge for themselves by clicking on my username and selecting "View Forum Posts". This is one of only a few harsh replies i have ever made. Mostly my replies are light-hearted if people 'screw-up' unintentionally, and this sort of reply is reserved for who just post obvious rubbish. I think i actually dealt pretty fairly with Checksum47 in my reply to his post quoted above. It's a valid question as to why he didn't tell us what he was working with, and a reasonable assumption that he was using the app and tools from this thread unless he told us otherwise. It's an appropriate response to someone you didn't come clean. He had ample opportunity to do so, and he didn't. It's also appropriate because he seemed to be blaming the helper all the way for not understanding and then finished off with "Finally, some instructions that are clear and have a valid file structure". Why is his/your file structure any more valid that neadrenalin's? Your response on his behalf took me by surprise as i had actually praised you for working out what his problem was. So why did you 'take up the cudgels' for him? Who knows... and i really don't want to know that... it's rhetorical like any other 'question' in this reply.
So here's the deal... I've now got that out of my system. You may have actually believed that stuff you wrote about Garmin and StreetPilot however you obviously made no attempt to check the 'facts' before you posted. You appear to have a good knowledge of iphone/iOS and will probably be quite useful in that forum and i really don't wish to cause you any embarrassment that might discourage you from contributing further in Noeman.. So, if within 24 hrs you edit your post above this to something innocuous, i will similarly edit this tirade back to a couple of conciliatory lines. Or you can ignore this 'olive branch' and let the Mods/Admins decide what to do about this. It's over to you, and just remember that you should have PM'ed me.

This is just a shot in the dark, but seeing you haven't had any other suggestions: With some garmin devices/software, search is incomplete or unreliable if you don't have a good satellite fix. Maybe it's the same with Garmin/iphone.
