    Also make sure there is a local_search_providers.plist, and that it at least contains this:

    <string>google</string>
    <key>vendor</key>
    <string>Google</string>
    </dict>

    If after all that you still can't get Google Local Search to appear, then I'd say remove all of the Garmin-related entries in your /etc/hosts file, reboot your iPhone to make sure it can still read /etc/hosts, then add just the entry for "127.0.0.1 gold.garmin.com" (w/o the double quotes) as the very last line (do not hit Enter or otherwise insert a carriage return), save the file, reboot your iPhone again, then see what happens. Are you sure you don't have some kind of firewall-like program installed? Because everything seems to be pointing to the Garmin app not being able to talk to downloadg/bronze/triplew/silver.garmin.com...
    thanks, did all that, check all the strings and they are all there... deleted that from hosts... even deleted the hosts.. Installed hosts again... I don't know what else to try... please tell me the order I have to write in hosts the garmin entries... to add the lines that way.. and also any other special permissions need to be set to that hosts file?

    thanks tony

    Don't add anything else in /etc/hosts other than the default stuff.

    Granted that my settings were tested on the Garmin USA 2.2 app used within the USA on an iPhone with English/United States iOS region/locale settings, but you need to make sure that your /etc/hosts file (on the iPhone) contains no Garmin hostname entries other than:

    127.0.0.1 gold.garmin.com

    Also ensure that you don't have any third-party firewall apps (e.g., Firewall IP) installed from Cydia..or if you can't afford to uninstall such apps, then make sure that they do not contain any blocks for Garmin hostnames (other than for gold.garmin.com) and/or the Garmin app itself.

    If after all that the weather icon still doesn't work--like I said, I can't speak as to whether stuff like Weather or Google works outside the USA when using a non-USA/NA Garmin app; someone else will have to speak on that...

    Thanks to the note!

    I could be wrong but if that is exactly what you downloaded and installed to your iPhone, I suspect that it's a non-legit version--in which case, I'm not sure how is it possible to installed a non-legit app onto a jailed (I assume by "jailed" you mean "not jailbroken") iPhone and expect it to work at all.
