Tonytone, Could you upload the garmin 2.2 ipa that you have ? Thanks
If Western Europe 2.4 is anything like Garmin USA or NA 2.3 as far as the main program executable is concerned, then the /etc/hosts trick will not work. Supposedly someone has gotten 2.3 to work but he hasn't provided any additional details on what was done to get it to work. It is definitely not calling home, as I get that error in 2.3 regardless of whether I put my phone in Airplane Mode. IMHO unless you really need the iCloud feature, FourSquare, Wikipedia, and/or Glympse...you're better off just sticking with 2.2. I wanted to get 2.3 to work, if only because of the issues I was having with the Weather and Google Local Search features not working...but once I figured out what the deal was, I really have no reason to move up from 2.2, especially given that Garmin has found a way to get around the /etc/hosts loophole.

Some more observations:
1) It may turn out that some of the "extras" in the Extras menu are actually free--PhotoReal Junction View, 3D Buildings, and trafficTrends. I was able to download all three extras to my iPhone via the Extras menu; the Garmin app now recognizes that they have been downloaded:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Note/caveat--when downloading PhotoReal Junction View and 3D Buildings, the app will download whatever map version is specified in the TargetConfig.plist file--for Garmin 2.2, the TargetConfig.plist shows version 2013.10...so once the app downloaded those two files, I simply replaced them with the 2013.40 versions. You cannot simply edit the TargetConfig.plist file and replace 2013.10 with 2013.40 because it contains the exact download location to grab the files..so unless you happen to know the exact download path for the 2013.40 versions of those files, you'll just have to make do with uploading 2013.40 files to your phone after the fact. Also--for whatever reason the PhotoReal Junction View download status reverted back to "FREE" after I replaced the downloaded version with the 2013.40 version, but in any case PhotoReal JCV works correctly (I tested it using the GPS Simulator feature).
Note #2--the trafficTrends file (it's a SID file, in case you were wondering) is downloaded to the ***/Library/sdcard/Garmin/SID folder (instructions for installing it manually stated that it should be installed to ***/garmin-nav.app/storage-***/.System/SID; the PhotoReal JCV when downloaded via the Extras menu is installed in a location similar to the trafficTrends file, except the directory is JCV instead of SID. The 3D Buildings file (gmap3d.img) is installed to ***/Library/sdcard/Garmin as opposed to manually installing it in ***/garmin-nav.app/storage-***/.System.
2) Downloading trafficTrends via the Extras menu properly enables the trafficTrends toggle in Settings -> Extras:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
3) Interesting as to where the sources for the Safety Cameras are coming from (note the various submissions from a user, a static DB source, and a Cyclops source):
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
4) If the Fuel Prices feature is supposed to be an in-app purchase, then it's interesting that it's not listed in the Extras menu...but what's even more interesting is this:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I still can't get the audible alerts for the safety cameras to work...real-time traffic does seem to work, but not the auto route redirect part of it. Still hoping someone may be able to point me to where I can find the Panorama View 3D map...

I download Garmin U.S.A. (v2.2 v2.2.10 3GS os43)-[*****Lords]-B_H (1)
It is impossible for auntenticate maps. so I delete and put South America 2013.40
Change the plist. Have now for pedestrian, but is impossible to calculate route
The icon google doesnt appear
How you do to work?
Hey Tonytone, I have the Garmin USA v 2.2, all maps and imgs are 2013.40, I have set the permissions to all those files like that before and the hosts are as I wrote before. I am going to check the target .plist file again to see. Everything works fine, is just that google search is a very good option to have considering somethings don't appear in the gps search, actually sometimes a lot of things... any other thoughts?
Do some of the other stuff like 3D buildings work and GPS Simulator work? If so, then at least I know the plist files I have available for download don't appear to be corrupt. I still think something's just not quite right with your /etc/hosts file; that, or do you have some other firewall program installed on your iPhone that might be blocking those other Garmin hostnames?
Funny as to what additional stuff you can find once you enable the Extras menu and actually download something from it--for grins I took a look at the com.garmin.onboard.com.Usa.plist...lo and behold, it listed the actual filename of the terrain file (aka, Panorama View 3D)--it's gmapdem.img. Thanks to those folks who provided links to download it--I was able to install it and voila:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

How can i add my map in to 2.4 Western Europe garmin app??
thx
tonytone, I used your plist files from a few pages back and I have 2.2 working. The only issue is I am not seeing any extras - traffic, cameras, etc. Are all these new findings you have come across still on 2.2 or have you moved on? Do you have any updated plist files? I would really like to get the cam functionality working as I have tried installing a GPI file, but it only gives a slight beep (very difficult to hear) and no visual warning. If you have any idea how to change the POI warning beep to some other sound even that would be a major plus.
Thanks for all the hard work you are doing!
