Hello one and all. First off I just wanted to say how impressed I am with this forum....great info given along with the great users who provide it. Thanks.
Now here is my question(s). I just picked up a Nokia N97 Mini a week ago and was wondering first..... What do you people recommend as GPS software? I have been looking at Garmin XT and don't know which version I need to install. Is Tom Tom available for the N97 Mini. Anyhow my appologies as I am a total newbie here and have been reading the incredible info available here but to be honest, I am more confused now as what to use. I live in Ontario, Canada so therefore need maps for Canada/USA.
Can anyone advise me which route to take. If Garmin. which version for the Nokia N97 Mini. If Tom Tom, which version for the Nokia N97 Mini or for that matter what to use for the Nokia N97 Mini. Not really happy with the built in Gps on the Mini.
Thank you catymag for the great info and your thoughts. I will give it a try. I guess the beauty here is that I am not stuck with just one type as in buying an actual gps unit....lol. This gives us poor folks the chance to try. Hopefully other users will tell their preferences and why they prefer that software. Do you know if Tom Tom is available for the Nokia N97 mini. My friend has an Sony Xperia and uses CoPilot which really impressed me and another friend uses Route66(don't know his cell phone type).
Guess what I would really like to find if it exists is a list of phones preferably mine and what software will run on it.
Thanks again catymag.
First of all you should try Nokia (Ovi) maps
Route 66 graphic is not so good
TomTom actually doesnt make a S60 version, only iPhone
you can try Ndrive or Sygic (good one) or others you can find in
Other GPS Systems forum
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
but the problem with these other softwares are maps
with Garmin or Nokia you'll always have map up to date
OVI Maps are free for your device.
GMXT v.5.00.60 is the last and only version which runs on the N97 (mini).
Maybe you should compare the quality and routing behavior with both maps.
Frankly, I still prefer Garmin, OVI Maps didn't convice me
Thanks Tom, I think I am inclined to agree with you here. Guess that is why I started looking elsewhere. Fortunately, my daughter and I drive from our home to the city of Toronto everyday and back at night (my office is in Toronto so is her's) She drives because this old man...hehe drives too slow, but anyhow it gives me the chance to compare.
So like I said to catymag now I can play. Last night I installed the addon's for garmin...3d.img and the other ones. This morning I hope to see how they work.
Thanks again mate.
Hi catymag, I had Garmin XT running but no 3d or lane changing so I removed totally and started from scratch downloading and as per your instructions trying both the 5.00.60 and again 5.00.50. I could not do this.
Start up Garmin Mobile XT and navigate to SETTINGS - SYSTEM - REMOTE GPS.
you must go in settings
use bluetooth gps---enable
Instead it shows "Connetion allowed to Garmin GPS devices only"
So is this the wrong version for my NOkia N97 Mini? If so what is the latest I should look for.
Oh and what is a stand alone version?

Ok, first start with the last posting.
You need to use the Jetmouse Keygen to generate a valid ID to unlock the program to work with all GPS devices. Same then with the Map itself.
And only version 5.00.60 works correctly with the N97, previous version show a splitscreen
Second. Laneassistant and Junction View are not working on Symbian Devices, so won't work either on ur mobile
Thanks again Tom, I did get it up and running but couldn't for the world get the 3d and lane assist working .....now I know why....too bad that would have sold me. haha you must be reading my mind because that would have been my next question...the split screen and to that answer again thanks.
Oh and I guess I should read these answers closely for I missed your above alread saying that version 5.00.60 is the only version that runs on my mini. I will try again with version 5.00.60.
Now what do you think of the NDrive. Does it work full blown as shown in any screen shots such as 3d almost video like traction etc, or does it have limitations like the Garmin XT??
Never tested NDrive, cause they don't have maps for the area i am living.
