So are there any out there... ???????????????????????????

because here is some of the BLING competition!

Don't get the wrong idea. I'm in no way affiliated with these guys.

I'm waiting to see some prices but the specs look decent. They even offer software to make your own maps using shapefiles. Could be interesting to watch. These guys aren't ready for prime time just yet. It just points o the greater horizon of a multitude of companies putting out low-cost (?) alternatives. Could be an abject disaster too but time will tell.

Maybe it is not so bad with Garmin??? The most users of this forum remember and know that Garmin can make really accomplished device. But as say ddabcd277 - marketing is ruled in world nowadays. I wish all in New Year to see oldschool Garmin device but not modern soap tray as post above!

What I'm hoping for is more direct user control of product interfaces for Hand-held and Automotive Garmins.

A new device 'skin and sound' editor, because the colors and graphics do not always lend themselves to efficiency or convenience as they stand now, it's more bling orientated rather than usability...

    Maybe like this...

    jQuery Mobile UI Builder

    ----------------------------------

AAAAAAAAAAnd for the possible Tablet outdoor handhelds to go back to the earlier higher detailed cleaner BW interfaces but recolored into a cleaner interface... like the avionics GUI's that don't need to be studied closely to know what's going on! Imagine this level of accessability and clarity in an Automotive or hiking GPS format!!!

    garmin gpsmap 695 696

Possible configurations could included cleaner GUI's from the older Marine ranges...

    sc tidePage lgsc hotSpots lg

    sc mapNumbers lgsc compass lg

The GPSMAP 192C very clean and detailed interface should become an efficient standard across all devices with less emphasis on BLING!

It has to be about usability and seeing that Garmin Beta test in the market place, then why not allow the user to develop as well.

    ---------------------------------

How about this for a mass market concept... maybe a car finder?

Back to topic, there are rumors of a Garmin "fitness band" being announced at CES 2014.

Sounds plausible. Nike have a big success with its Fuleband SE. There are also rumors that Samsung is also building a fitness band. In this segment Garmin are behind.

Unfortunately, there is not fitness section in Noeman. (hint to Caty ;P)

I don't have a clue about what we 'll see in 2014 from Garmin but what i would like to see are nuvi series with Android OS for other markets around the world & not only for the Asian. My feeling is that nuvi 2013 series was a step back for Garmin, in 2014 Garmin should do two steps forward. I don't believe it's an "accident" that Garmin Greece imports only the two nuvi models, 3597/2797 and skips all the others ...

    ...nuvi series with Android OS...
Like the chinese PNAs? (Hell, no! My personal view. ) But if garmin really introduces such a device in EU/US hopefully it won't inherit the disadvantages of this OS like freezing, crashing etc.

I didn't know that nuvi 3592LM SG/MY & nuvi 3595R TW have this kind of problems like freezing and crashing ...

Android OS is three step backward. OS likes Android already kill and will kill in future three fundamental capital investments: innovation technology development in production and OS engineering is two first, and overstated price on every decision with professional accent is last.
For example, if Garmin switches to Android platform all that it will need that is owners with office staff. This list is exhaustive!
