This applies to legacy devices. The firmware update for your 7612 is in the 'updates' folder.

You can extract those files from the executable using a regular WinRAR, but this will be the same.

Before starting the downgrade, make sure that there is no GarminDevice.xml in the Garmin directory of your Update SD Card. Starting with the unit powered off, insert the Card. Press and hold the power button ...

I've followed your instructions to the letter, but the present software refuses to give up the ghost . Is it possible that when running the executable that it's checking my computer for Garmin information? I do have Homeport and Mapsource installed. Has anyone been able to rollback a 7600 series? I'll try making a new SD installation card from a computer with zero Garmin data. I appreciate your not giving up on this problem!

Tried this morning with a SD card created on a computer with no Garmin info. Same result - no joy.

What about Slot 2 during this procedure?

    Note:
    • Insert your Update SD Card into Slot 1 of the switched off device
    • Remove any SD Card inserted in Slot 2 (if present)

Slot 2 has been empty in all previous attempts. Tried this morning using slot 2 with slot 1 empty. In spite of various combinations of holding the power button and pushing on the screen, the results were the same - no change.

Download version 9.2 again (even try to find a maybe find a different source) and see if it is the same size as the one you used to unpack it to the SD. You may have a bad v9.2

I downloaded it from the source in this thread and it is 1,514,310 KB.

Downloaded it again. All the same size. Has anyone been successful with a 7400 - 7600 series?

Is your Update SD Card formatted in FAT32?

Yes it's FAT32. It tries to install like a normal upgrade. The only thing that show on the screen is "Transferring to Recovery Region" and then "Recovery Loader Ready". After a brief time, the screen switches to the normal upgrade screen as seen above. No changes are made to the machine.

Have you tried replacing that SD card with a known-good card (not more than 32 GB)?

I've tried with 2 different cards (32GB) that work fine for the regular updates. Tried today with disconnected from the NMEA network with no change in the outcome. I wanted to try with a 2 GB card, but it won't quite fit. I'll look for a new card tomorrow and give it a try. I did discover on another thread ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) a successful roll back on a 7400 series. Not sure if it's a straight chartplotter or a combo like mine. Fingers crossed.

I've been using 16 GB card that have worked well in the past. Tried an new 8 GB card today with networking disabled - no change ( see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] #5). Then tried with everything but the power cord disconnected, and again no change. It's looking like I'll be using my laptop for my custom charts. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
