help Garmin muvi 260w cannot get gps to read SD card

GPS works fine but the maps are from 2010. Downloaded gmapprom.img and gmap3d.img and put them in a Garmin folder on my SD card. The Nuvi 260w is not reading these maps. I ran unlocker 2.1 on these files but no luck. I have run the Universal Firmware Patcher, Gupdate.gcd, JNX Patcher and RGN Tool along with updater. Scratching my head. Let me know if you see that I missed a step. Thanks

In a Garmin root folder of SD card, your device can only read detail maps named as gmapsupp.img and gmapsup1.img [latter name works in the software version issued from Nov 2012 onwards, either V4.10> or V7.60> depending on HWID of your 260W]. Of course the maps need to be either properly unlocked or officially purchased. However, gmapprom.img naming is not recognized for SD card, it only works directly for maps on the unit itself for all Series 2 nuvi devices. Nor can it recognize or use naming of gmap3d.img which is used for 3D Building and Landmarks map for the 7x5 series and many other later devices. Because of GMA protection in later software, older unlockers may not be effective.

And the sd card must have FAT32 filesystem and no file should be larger than 4 GB.
If you bought a 64GB card it will have exFAT (or even NTFS) file system which the gps will not read.

Guys that did it. I renamed gmapprom.img to gmapsup1.img and can now see one map dated 2016. The 2010 map version is still on the device with 2016 on the SD card. Wonder why it only shows the one map?

Probably the device has deselected the older map on boot up. Having more than one map version in the same series enabled can potentially cause serious issues in navigating. To check: Tools [wrench icon on main screen]>Settings>Map>Map Info. Your 2010 map should be displayed there with its checkbox clear.
