How do I install the map to my android device?
Depends on what device/OS you've got. This might help: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]. If not, look at the [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...], scroll down to 'Garmin on phones'.
If you need further installation help, post in the applicable and specific thread for SP on Android.
I grabbed this today many thanks guys!!but i dont actually have a base mapinstalled all i have is this one and all navigation seems fine....is this correct? Am i missing somthing? Im running the PC version
Whether you've used the PC Install version [gmap folder] to make your own image with MapInstall or you're loaded an already compiled image file to you device, it'll all end very badly eventually without a basemap. Check your unit in MSM connected to PC, depending on unit the basemap will either be in x:/Garmin or x:.System and it'll be named gmapbmap.img. If not in there, get the World DEM basemap V5.01 here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] or some other non-DEM/regional basemap depending on your unit.
Ahh sorry im running Garmin Mobile PC Ver. 5.00.70 on the windows 10 preveiw in a carpc.
No basemap installed just this city nav version..ill install the basemap in the morning and see how it goes.many thanks for the link!!
Ok, install it in GarminMobilePC folder named only as gmapbmap.img. Without a basemap, scrolling while zoomed out will result in a freeze or crash.
That would be why in never noticed any problems..i usually enter a address..... tap go...get to destination...turn off car/pc...restart car/pc and reroute..never too much interaction while driving.
has anyone else had the topo australia v5 overlay gets disabled with this 2015.40 version ?
I reverted back to 2015.30 and overlay returns, on nuvi 50/52
This worked great thank you. It is the first mapset to exceed 256Mb, being the size of the ram in my 2006 Garmin GPSMAP276C. Interestingly, dropping off several central Aus maps isn't enough to pull it under 256Mb and it wasn't until I dropped off the bottom NZ map that it fitted. I am just wondering if there is a way to drop advertising content from maps rather than to need to choose which map/s to drop to get to size?Quote:

I don't believe it is possible to increase the RAM in my GPS - that was certainly the largest available at purchase time and I was scoffed at for paying the extra when the biggest map of the era was around 79Mb! But now have hit the limit it seems.
I also can report that this .40 version has a lot of the errors I found introduced in the 2015.20 version when obviously Sensis tried to remove masses of errors they had allowed into their earlier releases - just look at the streets in Cessnock NSW if you want to see a dramatic change to drop rubbish errors and replace it with reality - both many pretend roads dropped and now auto-navigate through the region has been fixed so it doesn't send one down sidestreets due to "discontinuities" in the main roads. So all-in-all a needed update, but oh the memory consumption as they will have massively up-sold advertising in it too!
G'day Vince,
No way to edit NT map format to remove anything like that sorry. But don't blame Sensis for this map, this map contains HERE [Navteq] data. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] is similar size, ~257.6MiB [~270.1MB].
But there is a way to up the Garmin data card memory size to 2GiB by replacing the NAND chip in it. Read this post for more info: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] [post #25]. It's seemingly a 4GB chip partitioned to 2GiB, but your unit can't use a map or chart img file over 2GiB anyway afaik.
One of our members with a GPSMAP278, Doc_Kooindinate, recently purchased one of the upgrade chips for RUB6000, presently around AU$140: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] [post #9].
