on my nüvi 3590 I now also find a new folder FCD under .System containing a file probe.bin (569 Bytes). Did I oversee a post dealing with it?
Yes.Quote:

If there's so small changes between 20.12 & 20.11 (DEM), so why this new map so much smaller than Europe 20.11 - 483*229*696 bytes (20.11) & 317*841*408 bytes (20.12)?
@Ayugene
Differing compression used by the mapmakers could explain it. Even if it slows the unit down a bit and/or resolution is lower, it's a good move to create ~158Mib more free space on units which are now very tight for space because of such a large EU detail map which will become even larger as time goes on.
There are different sized DEM maps for NA too. The original larger one is well over 1GiB and the new smaller one's only 594MiB.
We are speaking about Europe 20.11 317'841'408 bytes long (September 2011), the same size as the latest available (20.12) version. Difference of byte2byte comparison with 20.12 is in the post #49.Quote:

As for the April 2011 version of 20.11 (483'229'696 bytes long) - it has the same number of the maps/sub-files (288) but - as Neil already has noticed - less compressed, and sometimes slightly shifted coordinates of their boundaries. Gmaptool helps to compare the Detailes.
Caty,
Do you have any idea which extensions, like ASR,G2S SID, SQLite,JCV can be stored in.System file on SD card?.. Or they can be stored in Garmin folder onSD card. For 3590 and 3790..
Orrr do they have to be on main unit .System folder?

Hi Catymag
you were right the image was still locked on the Nuvi.I unlocked it with the protected garmin file toolkit.
It was strange because the nuvi never gave any message that the image was locked.
NTU 2015.10 working on nuvi 1690
:))
@warblade52
.System folder on the card won't work at all. Much of what you've mentioned will work in a Garmin root folder on the card though. Any language-specific *.srd files need to remain on the unit in .System/ASR because they cannot work from the card, but the map-related *.asr and *.srx files can go in sd:/Garmin/ASR.
@kilgore
Search will not be fully functional for EUU in 169x or any other 1xxx device, but results may vary depending of how and where you search. The map Garmin supplies for your 1690 is the non-unicode EU.
I tried this release map (ITA&GRE region 4) into nuvi very-very old (nuvi 250W->2008) and works fine :) Also address searching (in Ita and Gre,obvious) works fine.With western languages,of course
Thats all :)
