    David,

When I expand it, it's 2.33 GB. Am I doing something wrong?

G'day again Ron. David's 7z file has a compressed size of 1.60 GB. When extracted, the full NA image is 2,329,477,120 bytes or 2.3 [decimal] Gigabytes. Windows will show it as 2.16 [binary] Gigabytes i.e. 2.16 GiB [Gibibytes].

Ah, caught again, Neil... I assumed it would be 1.6 GB when unzipped so it would fit on a 2GB CF card (I have a 2006 Goldwing navi, US model). I put the 2015.10 IMG file on a 4GB card and tried it on my Goldwing (currently using 2013.30) after checking it with Basecamp. The GW's navi system loaded the map to 100% and did not notify me of any problems, but when I checked the map there was no detail (streets in my town), and when I checked INFO/SYSTEM in the Menu, there was no map description shown.

So, I shut the bike off and I inserted the old map CF card with the 2013.30 map, and the details were back. So I'm assuming the navi system is limited to a file of less than 2GB.

Correct. The file must be no more than the FAT16 file size limit which is 2,147,483,647 bytes i.e. 2 [binary] GiB minus 1 byte]. As this is a unit-centric problem, i'll explain further in the Goldwing thread.

Is it possible in the future not to use filefactory? Short of buying a premium account, most of us are downloading at 80kb/sec for something that is 2 gigs large. That's going to take ohhhhhhhhhhh several days.

I heard that one cannot mix jcv (junction view) files with different map releases. If one were to rename a newer jcv file from a newer version of the map to match with an older map, would it work?

Renaming the file would not help. The pointers within the map would not match the corresponding Junction Views.

My calculator tells me that 2GB at 80kB/s would take just under 7 hours. Start the download before going to bed and you'll be a happy person when you wake up in the morning!

My 14xx garmin only has 2 gigs of memory. Im stuck using maps over 1 year old since I refuse to use a micro sd card.

The question is this - is there any way to upgrade my older where-to-go search-places like atms, restaurants, museum, etc from a new mapset, or is this information hardcoded into each mapset so that to upgrade this I have to upgrade the whole map? There isn't some small file I can just grab off a new mapset and stick it with my older mapset?

There's no reason for refusing to use a microSD for maps which i can think of. In fact there are valid reasons to do exactly the opposite of that and use a card for any detail map but in particular 'unofficial' unlocked maps. Not the least of those reasons is that should a map be corrupt and 'brick' the unit, simply removing the card will restore it to normal operation. Using a 4GB card costing a few bucks could save a world of grief.

Unfortunately there is no way to extract POIs from the detail map as you've asked.
