    @airwolfke
Maybe while you're 'finding your feet' here again you might like to use the image version [see the link in the post above yours]. BaseCamp can also use images [even locked ones] on a unit, media card or usb drive. Best don't use MapSource with modern installed gmap topo maps [or CNs] it's not designed to cope, BaseCamp/MapInstall is best used for the PC version particularly for generating images.

All the info you need to catch up is here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. For ActiveRouting db files, pay attention to these threads from the index: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. For the 'other type' db files, look here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

You question about JM for unlocking vs. 'something better' [i.e. using another type of unlocker] can also be answered by checking the Tutorials index.

If you need further clarification at all, please post in one of the appropriate threads linked above or another from the Tuts index.

@Neil, thanks for your advice Neil,
my question is this, I always prefer to have a install for Mapsource or Basecamp, now a days more for Basecamp since Mapsource is becoming more and more death. When I have the map installed on my computer I can choose which portions of the map I want to send to my device. For example the map of France, I don't want the whole map of France on my device but just the parts that I need. When I install several maps in Basecamp, I can choose from each map which sections I want, and so which maps I have on my device. That's the reason why I use a install version of a map on my PC. When you use a IMAGE on a sd card, I suppose that you only have that full map on your sd card and on your device and you're not able to switch between maps.
Is this correct? That's why I don't see the point of using image files for maps...and always install versions...

Please correct me if I'm wrong,

    thanks,

    Thanks Sergio2,
    it worked!

I have the map running in Basecamp. Just a question, I have not yet read the article about ActiveRouting, but can you already tell me where I can find the ActiveRouting function in this map of France v3? When I zoom into the map I can see for example a red dashed line with the text "GR 2a", when I put my mouse on this line I find the info that it's a "Trail". My viewpoint of ActiveRouting is that all the marked trails (named trails) are also put in the Garmin map. Is this correct?
it's there a way to find all the trails around a area?

    thanks

    Hi,

Open BaseCamp, select an area you want to find trails around, go to "find" at the top of the screen and select "find named trails" (or something like that) : all named trails around the area will be displayed at the right of the screen.

Sure, that's all basically correct. You cannot effectively just use part of an already compiled image. It is possible to make a simple preview map using GMAPTool to reverse-engineer an image, but it'll be a crippled installation, and there just never is a need to do that when a PC instal is available such as with this Topo.

As to switching maps, that's a no answer for most outdoor devices, other than switching SD cards each with a different map. You haven't said for sure that you have an outdoor, so if it's a car, truck or bike navigator it's possible to have several maps available without switching cards, but be aware that not all features of these modern topos are available on non-outdoor units. It's always best to say what unit you have so our answers can be specific.

If you're now comfortable using the PC instal go for it. As you said, because it's near enough dead just forget about using MapSource, and JetMouse is useless for the later programs so use the patched versions of BaseCamp and MapInstall to make your reduced size image and you'll be good to go. If you have any more queries, just check the tutorials first.

    Hey Neil,
yes it's an outdoor GPS, like a GPSMAP 60 or 62. I'm looking into buying one myself.

    thanks!

Best look closely at the memory capacity of the unit and whether it can accept a media card too. The 60 and 62 range vary quite markedly in that regard. I'd be inclined to avoid the basic 60 with it's internal memory of 24MB and no card slot for that reason. The basic 62 at least has 1.7GB on board. Here are the others:

I have used TOPO France v3 PRO Pc install, from OZboss, post 1

    - When I select a Named Trail, for example: "Le Fond Du Ryonval" then I select, "create route from Named Trail", there has been a trail made under "My Collection" but it's not the complete route, it's shorter or it's different. Same thing with route "Le Maresquay" to give another example. In the screenshot below you can see that the route is not a looped version, while the orginal trail is a loop, and also much bigger. I never get the exact Named Trail as a route. How come? And yes, the activity is indicating: "Walking"
    - How can I get "Named Trails" for bicycling? I have selected activity Bicycling and then went to "Find" --> "Named Trails". I only get the Named trails for walking! Nothing to find for biking. You can also see the screenshot below for an example, none bicycle trails, always same result.

    BTW, I'm using Basecamp 4.2.5
