All the other options are not default paths.

MapUpdater gives us the option to install map to a PC folder of our choice if it doesn't find any other MapSource product installed but we can change the path even after installation. If we change the default folder during installation MapUpdater creates a shortcut into C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps so MapSource or BaseCamp can find .gmap folder to it's new path. If MapUpdater can do that why can't we ?
First two shortcuts have been made during installation, the third one by me and i just moved the folder to the path i wanted.

It's always safer to use unofficial maps on an SD card. Your 205W with latest firmware can see 2 detail maps in sd:/Garmin folder, named gmapsupp.img and gmapsup1.img each under 4GiB [not just one map under 2GiB as previously]. Best to buy a cheap 4GB card to take all of EU.
If you insist on loading to the internal memory [less safe, chance of bricking if the image is corrupt] use MapInstall to load a smaller area of EU directly to the unit or on a 2GB card, or look for a suitable ready compile image in the thread.

further to post #234 and #235, the utility JaVaWa GMTK enables you to (re)locate installed maps to any subdirectory or even drive that suits you.
