Okay, I have installed some maps to the memory card, I need to install the map that I copied from the sd card, my home country, it's only about 12,504 KB, can I merge this with the ones I have installed?
In post #156 I see you have a nüvi 610. This model is not able to recognize more than one map file on an SD. You could put one map on SD (as SD:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img) and use the other one from the internal memory of the nüvi (as nüvi:\Garmin\gmapprom.img).
Alternatively, depending on internal memory space available, you could put both there (one as nüvi:\Garmin\gmapprom.img and the other as nüvi:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img).
Note: in the above instructions, replace 'nuvi:\' by the drive letter assigned to the nüvi by your computer.
Not gmappsupp, it's gmapsupp.
You seem to have two detail maps in the Garmin folder already (gmapbmap is the basemap, so leave that). gmapprom is probably the OEM detail map supplied with the unit going by the date of it's .sum file. gmapsupp is a secondary [supplementary] detail map. Back them up to your PC and remove them, then proceed with one of Smokefree's suggestion by simply using copy and paste to add the required image/s to the Garmin folder of the unit and/or the SD card. The .sum files are only checksum files, you can delete them if you want.
PS: Please don't post asking for this knd of basic information which can be found in the Tutorials without cluttering up the map thread, and only quote the relevant part of another post, or if it's the one immediately before yours no quote is usually necessary.

The 610 can have two user maps in internal storage (gmapprom.img, gmapsupp.img) and one on the SD card (gmapsupp.img). None of those maps can be larger than 2GB minus 1 Byte (2,147,483,647 Bytes) in size due to the 610 using FAT for its file system instead of FAT32. With that said, if I understand what you're trying to do, you want as much of Europe as possible on the 610 as well as your home country?
Set your home country's map as gmapprom.img. That way it's always available. Europe will need to be split into two images. One of them will go onto the device as gmapsupp.img and the other onto the SD card, also as gmapsupp.img. Hopefully it all fits.
Hi Strephon, is it possible to change a gmapprom.img file to a gmapsupp.img file by just re-naming it?
