Has anyone noticed that original Garmin map update now has file D3191090A.unl alongside D3191090A.JCV in .System\JCV folder? What's with that? Are JCV files now locked?

JCV on Nuvi 1xxx serie only work in original Nuvi 1390 and all 14xx
JCV option is not available for Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 1350, 1370 unless you do modification

I don't believe JCV is locked at this stage, If you want you can test by backing up the unl file to hard disk and then deleting the unl file from the Nuvi to see if jcv stops working and report back here.
I think for JCV lock they would have to update the firmware. Maybe it will be implemented in the future. (this is pure speculation of course)
If you delete .unl files even gmapprom one and you don't hard reset nuvi, everything will work at start.
A good test is done if you hard reset the unit.
Or, I've done this: Copy the unlocked map and D3191090A.vcj to an sd card without its .unl to try in another unit (i have genuine files in 3597, copies on microSD in 3590). A route from Chicago to Milwaulkee side by side shows the same JC views np. But the unlock code is not there for fun [April Fool's Day is long passed, and Garmin has little corporate sense of humour in my experience]. Dasil is right imo. There is something coming. I though it was maybe already here and had something to do with ALG in 2013 models, but if the unl is popping up in other units without ALG function then that theory is probably wrong. Can someone confirm that other units get it too?
@Neil look [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] and following posts
JCV .unl file removed. Device hard rebooted. Junction view works like before on 3790. Either Garmin is out for lunch (bug) or they are getting ready for more lockdowns, at least for current models.
Thanks Caty. I actually posted in that EU thread about the unlock but my memory was that Doc_Koorinate has a 3597 [he actually has a 1390 ...LOL]. Another of my Senior Blonde moments [Oh well, it won't be long now ......... What won't be long now???] LOL! BTW, no unlock file with D3531070A.JCV supplied with new Navteq CNNT AU NZ 2014.10. Maybe just EU & NA are the test bunnies for this.Quote:

I am stuck again. Have the map from torrent. Previously, the big jcv file didn't work on 1390. I renamed the internal file description with GMapTool like below and it worked on 1390:
Data MPS
V: North America NT 2014.10 (0)
F: PID 1, FID 2920, North America NT 2014.10
U: XXF5J-J2ZFG-5TMJB-Y5T6P-Z365B
Now the jcv it doesn't work on my 765 either...
I have the map and jcv on the device (since the 765 has 4GB, it can handle them).
What is supposed to be the correct V and F names?
