PS: I'm redownloading but that will take 8 hours (4 x 2 Hours) because the IMG I have can't be split by GMapTool.

    G'day,

I believe GARmin have admitted defeat!

The little Aussie, ozTOPO maps are superior, by far!

Perhaps someone might just upload it, fingers crossed.

    G'day,

I'm just saying, "if it sounds, looks, waddles like a DUCK, let's call it a DUCK" (Don't Understand Corporate Knowledge management!!!???!!!)

Though, the following discussion may be of some concern to hikers (probably NOT to Bush Bashers!?!)

Postby Shatkins » Fri Mar 21, 2014 3:05 pm taken from GPSoz Discussion Forum

    Set Track to Map Elevation

I have recently purchased OZtopo V6 after using Garmin Topo Aust & NZ V3 for many years. I changed due to the fact that with Garmin Topo Maps you are not able to print a hard copy map form Basecamp if your maps are bought as a SD card or downloaded. However, most of my tracks I follow are hand drawn on Basecamp and followed using a map and compass and/or GPS.

Once a track is created on Basecamp there is an option in the information window, that shows individual trackpoints, to "Set Track to Map Elevation". This is Greyed out and not usable with OZtopo but works with Gamin Topo Maps. When hiking tracks it is important to know elevation profiles to accurately plan trips. I only use Apple Mac computers

Is this only an issue on Mac computers? Is there a reason this function is not available?

    Thanks
    GPSoz
No not an issue with MAC. Its due to the fact that OZtopo does not include DEM (digital elevation model) data. Its something that been on our investigation list, admittedly low down. We currently working on other features at the moment, eg improve autorouting, adding Marine features for other states, improving road data. But we'll take a look at it,

    thanks for the feedback
    cheers

    G'day,

I read the following on the AUStech Forum

The latest SENSIS map includes new on-ramps on motorways that only opened in June/July this year (big clap), where as the HERE maps are still not displaying an on-ramp that opened late last year (kick in the mouth).

The rural areas I check are showing no difference in data, however the HERE maps still provide better coverage for dirt roads and off road areas.

So, my opinion is still if you use your maps in metro areas SENSIS maps are the only way to go, especially if you use main roads and motorways (where I've found the HERE data to be far too outdated). Rural is a 50/50 mix either way between the two and off road use is still taken out by HERE.
    So reading between the lines............
"the HERE maps (the ones now supplied by GARmin) now provide better coverage for dirt roads and off road areas"
Might mean GARmin is focusing on the HERE maps and not on the TOPO maps any more.

What about the contour lines? (I hear you ask) I'm using the ones from ozTOPO v3.

You can also use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. If will show contours overlaid on another detail map, even a CN. The pic here is of Contours 5m with Sensis CNNT in a nuvi 3790:

Sensis still beats HERE for up to date details!!!

I use Contours Australia 5m, YES five metres! It still beats topo as you have the same info just not the shadings.

I got the CD after searching for it on the web for months, then there it was.

I'm sure I have posted the links here but can't find them...

Here is what I have on hand:
