I was wondering if it difficult to get an original garmin map file from an original garmin purchased data card. I ask as I am thinking of buying the (garmin) deleted missing title 'rannoch moor and loch tay' and uploading it here (or getting someone else to do it!). Do you have to hack into it using a linux machine or something more complex or is it just a case of copying the image file and uploading it? Thanks.

If you mean the 3 rar parts from Ballebar's post #4, they will extract as a locked map image file GB_LakeDistrict.img.

Garmin image files are a proprietary format, they are not 'disc image' files such as you burn to a cd/dvd. The unlocked *.img file is usable directly by your unit. Catymag is saying to rename it gmapsupp.img, unlock it with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], and copy it into a folder named Garmin in the root of sd.
