885T had 2GB file size limit up until fw v4.60. That was lifted in v4.70, so if you are running earlier update.
Changes made from version 4.60 to 4.70:Code:http://www.gpspower.net/garmin-maps/273867-city-navigator-europe-nt-2013-20-a-8.html
2nd last line of Change History: Now capable of reading files (maps, etc) larger than 2GB.
If by classic .img files you mean 'non-NT' [ie OF (Old Format) or legacy format], no it's not. See [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]. It's not possible to edit NT format images.Quote:

I'm now fixed.
I let Mapsource send all of CNE 2013.20 to the 885 and then copied the gmapsupp.img to my desktop... then used the gimgunlock to unlock it and then copied it back to the 885.
The maps are now there.
Now to put the proper JCV file on the SD card and "maybe" other ASR files.
I'll have to experiment a little to see what works.
G'day timp4411
I'm getting déjà vu here... i think we may have talked about this before sometime. I a little curious why you do it that way. You must have unlocked the gmap folder for MS only using GarminUnlocker.exe in command prompt (or used either mapset.exe or Unlock Mapsouce.exe) to unlock just the CNEuroNT_2013_20.tdb file so you could send the map tiles to your device. If you're using a patched MS, why not then either send to your hd, an sd, or even a virtual sd and finish the unlocking there with gimgunlock? Or even better, just unlock the gmap folder fully with mapset.exe or Unlock Mapsouce.exe and send the fully unlocked map to the unit (or for safety, to an sd to use in the unit)?
I'm a bit curious, i'm sure there's a reason you do it the way you described.

I really can't explain why I do it the way I do it... it just seems to be the course I take.
I do have Patched MS but have not gone thru all the other steps you mention with tbd.
The way I did it seemed to finally work, but I have tried shortcuts like using gimgunlock on the file while it's already loaded on the SD, and it didn't work.
I don't can't say why it didn't work, but when I have the img on my PC, gimgunlock works fine.
I will make an effort to try to get things set up as you suggest and maybe once I learn what I'm doing, it will be easier.
Hi, my name is Sergio and write from Italy.
I have an old nuvi 350.
I downloaded 1.98 file (west and center europe) for sd card and 653 MB (east europe) file for device, but only 1.98 is loaded.
The file is ok (maybe), i tested it with gmaptool.
What I wrong?
For old nüvi or GarminXT you have options:Quote:

- Naming maps allows for more then one name. Allowed names are for NUVI
GMAPBMAP.IMG - base map (not routable for base map only)-nuvi drive
GMAPPROM.IMG - first detailed map - nuvi drive
GMAPSUPP.IMG - second detailed map - nuvi drive
GMAPSUP2.IMG - third detailed map - nuvi drive
GMAPSUPP.IMG - SD Card drive - on the card can only be one map
GMAPSUP1.IMG - work only on certain device with newest soft (like 2x5 and 7xx) on SD only and actually not for 350!
GMAPPROM1.IMG - must work on all device including 350 (checked for code of SW ver.6.20)
Typo Giomen? Actually it's gmapsup1.img that works as the 2nd map in sd:/Garmin in those particular older nuvis with recent fw.
