    Hi,

Is unlocked Mapsource folder from Ozboss in post 11 issued from an original Mapsource version or is it the folder generated from .img file with gmaptool ?

There are some misunderstandings that return over and over again:

    1. GB Discoverer maps are Rastermaps
    2. They always come as .img, to be used directly on SD-card
    3. Mapsource can't show Rastermaps or .img so there are no Mapsource-versions!
    4. These maps can only be used on a GPS or in Basecamp.

Yes, right, I know that !
But why did Ozboss notice that his upload was a "Mapsource" folder in post 11 ?
If it is so, this folder must have been generated from .img file by splitting with Gmaptool with a view of installing it in Basecamp (so that you don't need to read any SD card to display the raster map on your PC).
Effectively, a bloke on a latter post had downloaded this folder and spoke about an install.bat file.
I have already installed other raster maps in Basecamp with Gmaptool from .img files (for example .img files from Topo Alpina Espana) and it works well (as it works when you install a vector map in Mapsource with the same tool.)

    @geedub16

Garmin IMG map files are not the same as disk images. It's a Garmin specific file format readable by BaseCamp, HomePort or Garmin GPS units (incl. GMPC & GMXT).
There's also tools like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (no Mac version) to investigate the raw content of IMG-files.

    Question Odd overlay on roads.

I've managed to download all the files I require, and as well as getting them to work on my Colorado 300, I've converted them for use in Basecamp, using Gmaptool. I've been able to install the resulting maps in to Basecamp, and also create Gmapi file for installation in to basecamp on my Mac.

But, I seem to get an extra overlay on some roads in on the map. I've checked this by creating a virtual disk on the Mac, and loading the .img file into basecamp from there (actually seems better than doing the conversion...)

Map loaded into Basecamp from Virtual Disk
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Map loaded into Basecamp using Gmaptool
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The overlay clearly shows as orange and yellow roads. I've not found a way of turning these off, nor have I found how how they're generated. I suspect that it's how I've used Gmaptool - but I'm too inexperienced in this to be able to work it out.

    Any help gratefully received

Copy the .img in an sd in a Garmin folder and start Basecamp, nothing else is needed to display this map on pc

    Thanks Catymag,

What I'm trying to do is find out why I've managed to get maps with the extra overlay. By using a virtual disk, I've effectively done
Copy the .img in an sd in a Garmin folder and start Basecamp, nothing else is needed to display this map on pc
. I've used the same gmaptool conversion on TOPO for France, and don't get a similar issue.

Using a virtual disk does seem the best way to go, and it's very fast on a Mac

Topo France isnt a raster map Yes virtual disk is great because is faster We use it instead of sd normally:

Mapsource is discontinued and not good for Topo Maps actually, Topo France Pro displays in BC trails you cant see in MS,additionally some new topo maps dont display properly in MS.
