Hi, I can only see the map on the right side, but cannot see the map names on the left pane. What's wrong?

    My folder structure is:

In this folder, I have the following files and subfolders.

I downladed and installed the patched mapsource version from this thread.

Names in the left panel appear when you select areas in the right panel in the map, this is possible if your map is unlocked.
To unlock it in MS use mapset unlocker and run it in gmap folder, the img you'll send to your gps will be unlocked too.

You haven't selected any map parts. You use the 'Map Tool' to do that. Watch the video from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and read the other MS threads in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

All good things come to those that wait.

But seriously, could you have been any more vague.

Then use the torrent sites - MUCH faster and no hassle once you get it set up. These file hosting sites are a joke....

No they don't - you are clicking on an advertisement. Slow down and let the page load completely. Read carefully.

How does the saying go from that comedian........."you can't fix stupid" Just kidding. Best advice is to slow down and take your time. If you aren't a slave to your computer - get set up for Torrents. Click it and forget it. A well seeded file takes 1-2 hours to download based on your IP's DL speed. These file hosting sites take me 2-3 days to DL. I simply don't have time to monitor each file and wait 1 hour in between each download - not to mention those impossible to read captcha's. If you are crafty - DL one file and use a mirror to DL a second file. Tag team the DL's and you can grab the entire file in a day.....my time in front of a computer is very limited, so I can only grab 2 files in the morning and two in the evening so using file hosting sites is a royal pain for me. Torrents work so much better but they do have their limitations as well. Do some searching and see which way to downlad works best for you.

My intent is not to start a Hosting site vs torrent site debate.....Just helping this frustrated guy out. I feel his pain....

    Good luck on your downloads!

Can you please tell me how to properly put the required files on an sd card? Do I create a folder on the SD card and call it Garmin or do I create individual subdirectories within the Garmin directory for each of the jcv files, asr files, img files, .db files? Or do I put everything in the root directory or create a system directory like on the unit itself? I am confused and would really appreciate any clarification. I have a Garmin 3790T. Thanks!

Hi I am about to update my old 255w for a nuvi 40 or nuvi 50. Do not make up my mind yet. The thing is I have installed the maps in mapsource. But what extra files will I need to update maps of the 40 or 50?

    thanks

If you've already got the gmap folder installed for MS, you've done the hard part. You'll find the rest is fairly easy... if your gmap is locked look at these: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Watch the video in here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Lots of other relevant stuff here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Although...your question could also mean that you want to know what additional files can you use with 40/50. The only difference between 30/40/50 is screen size/resolution and weight. See this comparison:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
All you 'need' is the JCV files and custom POIs (eg Safety Cameras) to fully complement your map. All other features such as LA, SLI, TTS are map or fw enabled.

Personally, for the $20US and $30US difference between the base model and the LM(Lifetime Maps) versions of the 40 an 50 I'd go with the LM versions.

Both are competent guidance devices and with a cursory glance the same function set. Just differing screen sizes.
