    Ok, lets forget talking about programming for a dead species. But you have to realize that lots of people still work with the PPC, because they can't afford a new expensive Intel Mac (I don't want to sell my violin). The trick with a virtual image does not work for us with Basecamp 2.1.2 (release 2010). We really need the maps in our computer.
    That's why I started - after joining in oct '11 - posting in this forum every map that I succesfully converted from a Mapsource package into Gmap-file. Sometimes also a hell of a job. May be small contributions, but very usefull for this group of users.
    So by doing this, I often thought: "Why is it possible to send (convert) a Gmap file to a GPS with Garmin Mapinstall, where it appears as an *.img file; and not possible to convert an *.img back to a Gmap?". But I realize the Mac-PPC is also a die-ng species; so this dream will never happen.

    @Ballebar
    Yes, you are right. That's my machine: Power Macintosh G5 2.0 DP (PCI) Specs (Early 2005, M9747LL/A, PowerMac7,3, A1047, 2061) @ EveryMac.com

    In 2005 Apple sold millions of them and they are still used all over the world. Because they are excellent in studio's for really heavy duty tasks (editing, rendering, et cetera).
    I don't think about putting it near the garbage. Besides that a new Power Mac Pro is about 3000,-. Lol.
    So I steady go on converting Mapsource Maps into Gmap Maps for other Mac-users in this forum.

    A question about the raster maps in the Garmin IMG format:
    Is it possible to convert them to picture format, like tiff or jpg? And use it in other programs like Oziexplorer?
    Possible it is because Basecap do it to show on screen , but is there a tool to do it automatic?

    And the links in post #32 are no good, because: 1) torrent is not seeded, stops at ~70%. 2) maps in the collection are not 1:25K.
    Also I don't have any "tool" to download the maps in "http://map.geo.admin.ch/", as I did for other countries.

    Sorry about this but I'm "mad" about (topo) maps...

    Cheers
