    Thanks for the corrections!

I believe the 5th map, City Navigator SEA (I thought it was Southeast Asia not Southern) NT is not as updated as the specific City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia map. But the advantage of course is that it covers all the SEA countries, or most of it. But I seem to recall that for some coutries like Indonesia, it only covers certain cities.

I still do not know the answer to my original question, which is why the files for City Navigator map for Singapore/Malaysia is more than twice the Malsingmaps NT 2011 map with similar features. Could be due to any reason but I would like to know the actual reason so that I can decide which map to use. Personally, I would much prefer to use the most updated MSM 2012 map but unfortunately, there is no junction view yet. So, lack the cool factor!

Please double check. I said "Southeastern", as spelled inside the map data.

I do see a small product.JCV file, about 983K, in MSM NT v5.35 downloaded from some post on Noeman. But I have not tested how useful it is.

It's just a sample file for KL. See this post and preceding posts here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. MSM NT v5.37 & 5.38 have a similar sample file of 961KB. Need lotsa time to find 'em in simulation or a couple of tanks of dinosaur juice to find 'em in the live, unless there's some info on their site to say where they are. Can't be very many views at under 1MB file size, even in low res. Maybe they will do a full file soon?

It will be good if MSM and MFM can get back together and produce a single really good map.

Yes, thanks. I see from your post yesterday that you downloaded the Type3 pack. Same map info as my last Type2 dl, makes sense. Robinang reported a header date of 10.02.2012 which must mean different map info in at least one other pack type (1,4 or 5) for some reason.

Comparison is not always subjective when only one area is examined as you realize i'm sure. Simple answer, have both and use whichever seems best where you are at the time. Don't select both maps together of course or there will be problems. (Go to: Tools>Settings>Map>Info>Check or Un-check as req'd). On the other hand, the two different jcv files in the 'JCV' folder should not cause any problems.

Size could be also to do with differing compression rates used by the mapmakers, not just the map data. Higher compression rates may also explain slower drawing and/or searching.
    Hi Neil,

If I create a 'Map' folder in the SD root, I can put many maps in there. Then, the JCV file should be put in 'Map\JCV' folder? Am I right? Pls confirm.
    Thanks.

No. The JCV file(s) go in x:\Garmin\JCV. If the sub-folder 'JCV' does not exist, create it.

Yes, i can see the conflict of info in Type3 & 4 there. Beats me which one is right.

I don't have a Garminfone but i think the file structure is the same as the Nuvi 1xxx/2xxx/3xxx series. Your A50 certainly supports JCV and i think you could use either Type3 or 4 depending on screen resolution. The 1200 has lower screen resoultion so i guess the Type3 JCV is just lower res than that in Type4, maybe? However, if your A50 also supports ASR you may need to get Type5 to get ASR files. Type1 would have 3D building files which i doubt the A50 supports.

Have a look at the Garmin SG site to compare what features different Nuvis support and how they compare to your A50 features:

If this doesn't help you, post again and maybe someone with an A50 can help you more. Like i said, i don't have access to an A50 so i'm guessing a bit with the above.
