Yes, sorry. I meant to say that I tried \Map, \Garmin and \Garmin\Map on the SD card. None of them worked.

    Thanks to Kanopus:

    jnx save to \Garmin\BirdsEye\
    kmz save to \Garmin\CustomMaps\

This works, both on Dakota 20 or on the SD-card, and it seems that I really have patched the firmware as described in #4!

I have tried the "lake district.img" in a folder "map" on Dakota and on SD-card and this did NOT work. If I copy the "lake district.img" to the folder "garmin", there it works - at least for me, both on Dakota and on SD-card.

The first three maps (Brecon Beacons, Lake District and Peak District) need to go in the root of the GARMIN folder on either the SD memory card or the units internal memory, doesn't matter which.
The Dartmoor Birdseye Select needs to go in the GARMIN\Birdseye folder, again it can be either on the SD card memory or the units internal memory.
Brecon Beacons and Peak District need to be unlocked before use, the Lake District is already unlocked.
To view the Dartmoor map you need to use hacked firmware.
Hope this helps clarify things a bit :-)

Thanks for the clarification. That matches with what I was expecting and what I have been doing with previous maps that I have used (all placed in the \Garmin folder on the SD card). Unfortunatly it doesnt appear to be working with these maps.

I have been trying a few more things (note that I keep the basemap on the internal memory and all other maps on the SD card):-

    1) Formatted the SD card, created the \Garmin directory and placed the Lake District IMG file in the \Garmin directory. When I started the GPS no maps were displayed (basemap had previously been disabled). When I enabled the basemap, it was displayed but the Lake District map was not displayed.

    2) Copied the Discovered 1:50K whole UK IMG map to the \Garmin folder on the SD card (I have successfully used this map previously). Same result as 1. Only the basemap is shown.

    3) Copied the OSM IMG map to the \Garmin folder on the SD card (again, I had previously used this map). Same result as 1 and 2.

    4) Deleted the Lake District IMG map from the \Garmin folder on the SD card. This time the Discoverer 1:50K map and OSM maps were visible both on the map screen and in the setup enable/disable screen.

When I had tried to use the Lake District map initially, it was copied to my SD card AFTER I had placed other maps on it. The other maps were still shown on the GPS but the Lake District map wasnt. This time, the Lake District map was placed on the SD card BEFOR any of the other maps which were not shown on the GPS. It appears that my GPSmap 62s doesnt like something about these (Lake District etc) maps which then prevents it from loading any other maps on the device. Very odd. Does anyone else have a GPSmap 62 that they have tried these maps with?

to campbela: on some forum - I forgot where - I did read that it is necessary to have a vector-map on the Garmin or the SD-card which covers the area of the non-vector-maps, otherwise the non-vector-map is not visible. Can be the basemap or even an empty map but it must cover the area....

catymag: I guess that means that the maps are OK and the problem is with my GPSmap 62s or me :-(

fluorescent: My GPS came with the Worldwide DEM Basemap, NR installed on internal memory. I have tried with this enabled and disabled without any success.

I have just put the Lake District img on the internal memory (\Garmin\GMAPSUPP.IMG) with Discoverer GB and OSM img files on the SD card (also in \Garmin). GPS only shows basemap as being available. If I delete Lake District then GPS shows basemap, Discoverer and OSM ans being available (only basemap is enabled, but I can enable/disable the others). It (the GPS) obviously doesnt like the Lake District map.

catmag: What firmware are you running on your GPSmap 62? (mine is 2.80).

Well, it was worth a try but 2.92 beta didnt make any difference.

I've managed to get the Peak District and Brecon Beacons maps to work. Previously, I had used Fast Image Unlocker to unlock them. It didnt report any problems so I assumed it had worked OK. I have now tried Garmin Unlocker Alternativev 5.71, which appears to have done the trick and these maps are now visible. Only problem now is that the Lake District map is already unlocked and GUA doesnt like that.

    Nearly there!
