@catymag, Thanks anyway, but i have spend too much time with all the links and software and posts that seem to give instructions for people who seem to have done this before and are more clever than me.
The instructions to make a unl file is so vage and seems to be copied and alstered in forums that have no clear advise, but have given it a go and failed.
I like to see if anyone else here if read this post, could you please reply exactly in simple detail how the process of making a unl file with notepad, what im asking is step by step please. I know the map here is unlocked and is seen on my 3790T.
I have all the update software as needed. jetmouse 1.5 fixed etc, please no links unless its exactly needed for cityxplorer only please. at last resort the Real garmin maps are now cheaper. Navteq 11.95 and senis 19.95 , i wonder why we bother with low priced maps thinking are they running true like original or not! Thanks in advance, ps. other forums are same, cheers

    this is no vage:
On jetmouse keygen v1.5 put the 10 digit gps unit id number (will be unlocked only in your gps)or the sd serial # (it will be unlocked in any gps you put the sd card
under-select map product --on the bottom ---custom map set---add the maps FID# also called mapid #
Click generate on the bottom-all those numbers will unlock the map--copy that 25 digit number into the gmapsupp.unl file --- don't add any enter --just 25 digits on the first line ----
on a sd card create a garmin directory--in that directory copy your gmapsupp.unl file (unlock file) and the gmapsupp.img
When you save the .UNL file in Notepad, be sure you set the "Save as type" to "All Files", not "Text Documents".
Copied from the link I gave you : i cant explain it better.

@catymag, Here is what i done for my 3790 with the melbourne sensis map. as navteq file has bothe sinsis.img and navteq.3d files so did not try with that file.
1.jetmouse 1.5 latest. add my gps 10 dig number.
    2.select mapset..add 800 in FID pressed ok
3.click generate on map unlock code. copied that code.
    4. opened notepad..added the code in top line only.
next what i done is what i called vage as it is not explained in detail, but gave it many trys.
( before that i change the melbourne map to gmapsupp.img although its not needed on the 3790 the map is seen on my gps,but followed you instructions)
    5. on notepad after entered the map unlock code top line, i selected "file", select select "save as" changed file name from *.text to gmapsupp.unl , in save as type i selected "all files" , in encoding left unchanged (ansi), final clicked save.
    6. file is on desktop. closed the notepad window.
    7. now i have both img and unl files done to best understanding.
    8. on my SD card i made a folder called "garmin" as it is mentioned in posts ( note i also have folder called "maps" this is where all my other maps are sitting including xplorer NY and Paris and many other maps etc)
    9. I cut and paste (not copied just to make sure) both img (unchanged) and unl (created) files to "garmin" folder on sd card.
    10. Placed into 3790 and reboot the gps, in map directory all maps i have are shown, including the melbourne cityxplorer in full title as posted here. Maps running (ticked) are melb xplorer , Au-Nz-dem , CN AuNz 3d and traffic trends Cn AuNz.
    11. Returned back to main window changed car to pedestrian.
    * with explorer there are to be extra information as in "transport" the normal garmin map have left out ALL "commuter railway stations" garmin says cityxplorer will have all that. OK...there is NO extra information or any difference in POI this tells me, something is wrong.
Note; I have used "Pedestrian mode" with what i done above and without xplorer and the function is exactly same.
So this is what im having issues with.... I just dont get it, i would like to know if ANYONE has achieved the end relsult and can tell me if it works, also catymag thanks for your help, if i have missed something please let me know as i have done what i understand within this forum.
    Cheers

You did all ok, as a matter of fact, you can use your Melbourne CX with pedestrian features and Public Transport.
These extra features dont plan to show more POIs on your map, but to calculate a route for pedestrians, showing buses or underground or trains stops. You can tell your gps you dont want to walk more than eg. 1 km and it will calculate your walk giving you the proper course using Public transport. The pedestrian feature, in addition will show streets where just pedestrians can access.
If you simulate a route or in trip planner you'll see the difference

The map are the same as the CN from where they come, exactly the same. But on CN you wont get directions for where to walk, where to catch the bus, subway, tram, or other transportation These maps are just for pedestrians,I wonder why they cant be seen on outdoor gps devices and on phones.

You can put Melbourne map in Map folder naming it anyname.img along its FID800 created .unl , naming it exactly to the same .img name , obviously .unl estension.
3790 supports just one gmapsupp.img in Garmin folder, many anyname.img in Map folder.

@CATYMAG, If i have done everything according to instructions, it seems that there may still be some issue, it may even be it still is not working. When select wakling on my 3790 go into trip planner press create new trip, select location (which is not in melbourne its city about 40miles away, select home, then next screen will show 1.home, But this is where the option of "next" is still hidden, this tells me that xplorer is not working. ( xplorer is enabled along with all AU maps that are pre-loaded on 3790)
I have set walking 1km as the Bus stop is near and that should get me into the rail station then into melbourne and final destination.
If you think i have followed instructions on how to unlock as you have read and you seem to be satisfied i have, then there must be something im missing.
I will later try and unlock the Sydney map and see what happens. I am aware that i can keep same map/unl name and place other xplorer maps into "map" folder also, as i have NY and Paris there.
Let you know how it goes, if you have any ideas i appretiate your input.
    cheers

Hi I cannot get public transport mode to operate. In the Melbourne, Sydney maps all the maps and 3d show will allow drive or walk but in test does not allow public transport I tried pid 1, and 2 keys to be sure, and used fid 800 although I see above you mention using the map id. Also as far as the key gen it would appear that in fact you could use exactly the same key so long as the unlock file has the correct name for the map

These maps are for 37xx series and FID 800 is enough to unlock them, follow instructions in post one and copy in Map folder in sd along the .unl file.
    for example Sydney.img + Sydney.unl

to enable pedestrian features, select pedestrian navigation and public transport

Default RE: The set-up with unlock code and simulating a public transportation route.

Since all special versions of cityXplorer for nüvi 3790 have FID = 800 & PID = 1 you will only need one (1) unlock code for all of them. It seems not to be a widely spread knowledge that the "gmapsupp.unl" file can hold all unlock codes in a Garmin GPS unit. If one needs 100 unlock codes for some reason then all can be put inside "gmapsupp.unl".
Just as an example - If you have a memory card with Garmin Language Guide and 5 of the special cityXplorer maps, you just need one 25 character code for the language guide and one 25 character code for the 5 CX maps. All 2*25 = 50 characters written inside the "[Memory Card]:\Garmin\gmapsupp.unl" file as a consecutive string without delimiters or carriage return / line feed. The "gmapsupp.unl" file should be a multiple of 25 bytes (25, 50, 75 ... etc.).

If you don't put the unlock code in the "gmapsupp.unl" file then you have to make one UNL-file for each CX map or embed the unlock code inside the <CX>.img file. It would be easier to just use one unlock code and administrate that in the "gmapsupp.unl" file. This would allow adding more of the special CX maps to the Map directory without any extra copying of UNL data and/or UNL-files.
CX maps should be in the "Map" directory, either on the memory card or in the Garmin unit. The best source to find where a file belongs is to look inside "[GPS unit]:\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml".

This is the "GarminDevice.xml" part for CX maps and how it finds MMR data inside a CX img file.
    Code:

Here's just some example pictures with cityXplorer Melbourne (Sensis). It works great to simulate even when you're in Europe.

If you're not in the cityXplorer coverage area - Set the unit to GP simulation mode:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=88223

If you're not in the cityXplorer coverage area - Use the "Where To?" ...:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=88220&

... and set a current location (simulated position):
    attachment.php?attachmentid=88224

Use the "Where To?" and choose a end point for your route. Then choose "Public Transit" for the route calculation:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=88222

As a result where should be a route with public transportation data:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=88221

Great tip! I did exactly the same, but I also went to the extreme to add a comment for each unlock code. Here is what my gmapsupp.unl looks like.

    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Each line starts with 25 characters of unlock code, followed by 23 characters of comments, then followed by a DOS end-of-line (i.e. carriage return + line feed). This format is designed for DOS editors. If you use Unix editors, you can have 24 characters of comments followed by a Unix end-of-line (i.e. line feed only). Or if you use Mac editors, you can have 24 characters of comments followed by a Mac end-of-line (i.e carriage return only).

You can have anything in the comments. I just put MapID and map name. The MapID makes it easy to create a new unlock code for another device without looking up the MapID again. Of course, if 23 characters are not enough for your comments, you can use 23+25, 23+50, ... (in general 23+25*n) characters for comments too. All space of the comments must be filled in. For example, I appended dots to the end of the first line to make the comments 25+23 characters long.

Since each unlock code is in one line, it becomes very easy to add, move and remove unlock codes. If all unlock codes were in one long string instead, it would be very difficult to find where the 50th unlock code starts and ends to remove it.
