It's not so new method of entering unlock keys. This interface came with MapSource v6.14.1 as of July 18, 2008. It makes the same job as the earlier "Unlock Wizard".
As always it's just an interface to put the unlock keys into registry keys. All your Garmin unlock keys are stored at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Garmin\MapSource\Codes". There's a check-sum control that validates the possible correctness of the key before it's accepted by the "Map Product Manager".

Open a MS-DOS command prompt and execute:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
"Map product not installed" is just exactly what it says. The best way is to put a comment when entering keys and that way you would know what product you have uninstalled. Otherwise you can open the entry and check the 25 character code with the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Unlock keys remains until you delete them. They aren't deleted when you uninstall or upgrade a map to newer version with another MapID.

If there's another user account on the same computer one can copy and export the registry "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Garmin\MapSource\Codes" to a REG-file. Then it's just to import that file for the other user account. That could easily be made more or less automatically by a script.
This is also possible to do with the "Export ..." button in "Map Product Manager". Good for backup or transfer to another user account.
Garmin unlock keys aren't for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and all users so the need to be in the registry for every user account who needs them.

Thank you Ballebar! I always assumed the key would go away when the uninstall routine ran. hahahaha. Very nice to be rid of the Unlock Wizard. It would not run if it found anything amiss and was a problem for me lots of times which is why I found ALL.BAT to be a blessing. Also, I was unaware of the UC tool that I now have. I routinely export the Garmin Reg keys as a backup just to be safe! Way too much effort to reinstall all the maps again.

Could you answer the question(s) I posed to Catymag reference the methods used that cause harm to maps, perhaps? Would be really nice to know which methods to avoid...

    Reverse Converter+Garmin U locker(all.bat) or
Jetmouse + unlocking in a patched Mapsource with unlock regions feature or
gmap unlock batch (here link in post n 38)
are alternatives to unlock new maps in MS and wont harm your maps

The only downside for me in using the unlock map reverser is it creates an extra mapset and takes up more room. You need to be careful which mapset to remove from your system. The latest map reverser version is 4.2 and the developer is screening people before he allows them to download now because he claims it was being used for illegal purposes.
However, the simplicity of using the ALL. Bat file and the fact you can make a fully transferrable unlocked .img file is phenomenal. I will use this method until it's no longer possible.

    it will be in Mapsource

I am using 7 Zip and used Firefox to download but same result are there other links for the mapsource version.

And on an entirely different question is there any way to get Mapsource to store the Maps on a drive different to the System drive to save space on that drive.

    Thanks.

Just create a Windows shortcut named "City Navigator North America NT 2011.30.gmap" in GARMIN\Maps directory that points to the "City Navigator North America NT 2011.30.gmap" directory residing at another drive and/or directory location. Make sure the name of the shortcut ends with ".gmap" and NOT with " - Shortcut".

GARMIN\Maps directory for GMAP maps in Windows:
    Windows 7 & Windows Vista
Installed by Administrator user for all users - "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GARMIN\Maps"
Installed for one single user account - "%APPDATA%\GARMIN\Maps"

    Windows XP
Installed by Administrator user for all users - "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps"
Installed for one single user account - "%APPDATA%\GARMIN\Maps"

I have it dowloaded and I have it unlocked in mapsource but how to I get this new 2011 map on my nuvi 200 and 260w? I cannot figure out how to transfer this to it's memory to update my 2008 version on the units themselves. When I run update map on the unit it keeps telling me to select a map but I cannot figure what to do from here. I have selected it and said transfer to unit and it just keeps coming back select map to upload to unit. Man am I confused. It was a lot easier for the marine units ! Can someone explain the steps to get the new 2011 North American map on my nuvi's please. Sorry for my ignorance I am just confused as hell...

    regards,

It appears that the UNLocked version of the gmapsupp.img of this post is missing maps, Hawaii - to be specific Honolulu and Kapaa, HI, and perhaps others and there is a size difference of 2.2 mb so there may be more discrepancies than I have found so far. 1,388,937.216 MB Locked vs. 1,386,741.760 MB Unlocked so be aware... Now I am getting why Locked is the way to go...

You have to use the "Map Tool" (you should see the button in toolbar) to select the area(s) in the map image.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] should help if you still having issues.
