    Hi woodie
To get your Unit ID please read Page 47 of instructions from the link below

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Basically what it says is
From the Main menu>Tools>Settings>System>About there you will see your Unit ID

Type your unit ID in the top window of the keygen, miss the software bit all together, then drop the window down where it says Select Map Product, go right down to the bottom and click on <custom mapset>
put 2262 in for FID then click ok then click generate, thats the Map unlock code you make into a gmapsupp.unl file as per my instructions and pics in previous posts and extra pics below. On the SD card create a folder called garmin put the gmapsupp.unl file in there with the map image gmapsupp.img and start your gps and it will see the new map

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

To make a gmapsupp.unl file open notepad on your PC copy the serial into it,
Go to file at the top, click file go to save as, type in gmapsupp.unl for File Name, take away the *.txt at the end of gmapsupp.unl
Then underneath where you see Save as type, change to All Files (*.*) your PC will alert you about changing file extension (see pic) just say yes then copy this gmapsupp.unl file into the garmin folder on the SD Card next to the gmapsupp.img all should now be right.

The most common reason for the maps to be still locked is the gmapsupp.unl file when looking at it (as per my Picture above) it should read on your PC gmapsupp.unl
IF it reads gmapsupp.unl.txt it's WRONG

If you read my instructions word for word following all steps explained you will not get any errors I know it's all nerve racking at first but patience will pay off.

Also if all else fails, Unit says "gps cannot authenticate maps" use link below to unlock Map image, Thanks to catymag for the link. Also before using unlocker make aback up copy

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Download unlocker it's in a rar file so unrar FastIMG Unlocker into the same folder as the locked Map image and double click on it and let it do it's work, (just a tip turn off anti virus and if double click not work try right click run as administrator) once it runs you will then get inside the folder a map image called gmapsupp_locked.img and an unlocked image gmapsupp.img that is ready to use

    Regards

I know I am probibly becoming a pain, I have read through all the tutorials and I cannot find anything to help me. I now have a message that says the gps cannot authenticate maps. I have followed what you have said to the letter. I have also tried to get the mapsource to go but it will not open these maps.
    thank you woodie

yes I read it and every other post, it still means nothing to me. The maps donot open on the computer and they donot open on the gps. I realy do not understand what to do, I have tried putting the unlocker thing on the disc, I have tried differant keys nothing is working. I am getting very frustrated.

I'm sorry for this coz I always thought tutos can be useful for our new members. Anyway I try to make a synthesis of matters explained here
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    and in other tutorials
The maps do not open on the computer
as said you cant see an img in mapsource like it is,imgs are Garmin images ready to copy in gps devices .
To see them in mapsource ,and it's written here
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
you must create a mapsource installation with GMapTool (you wont have search if you transfer an img to gps)
or you can see it in Basecamp
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
and they do not open on the gps
Sure coz you have a new device or a new firmware, It's the new Garmin policy, you'll need to unlock it ,coz you dont have the related gma file in your gps .with eg.

just put your img in a folder with FU and run it, then copy it in your map folder

    I hope this helps

I must be real stupid as I am unable to get any of these to work. I have dowloaded everything and done everything and nothing is working for me. the mapsource will not open maps the unlocker will not unlock, you say to run it but how? I have double clicked it, it shows the file but it dose not do anything else. I downloaded the Gmaptool but could not do anthing with it. Sorry for making it hard.

    Hi,

I have downloaded all of V3, but it is too big for a 2G card. (The dog trackers will only take a 2G card). Is it possible to delete the NZ info - if so how do I do it...?
