img is to transfer directly in your unit (Map folder: anyname.img) NOT a mapsource installation, to have the map in mapsource you need the gmap folder ,as said before, in the correct path.
The one in post 2 I'm afraid wont let the use of search in gps, better to copy the img directly in the gps unit.
The gmap3d.img goes in the same Map folder,if locked ,unlock it with Fast IMG Unlocker.

Can U please explain what the gmap3d.img does.
I installed it on my nuvi 1300 and it has accepted it but I cannot see any difference with it on while navigating.

Thanks for that - I see it is significantly smaller than the previous versions - anyone know whether it has less detail or is just more efficiently compiled? A second question - has anyone possibly got an updated POI file for South Africa. Mine is a bit old and the contribution to the cops coffers getting a bit heavy!!
