    Hello all,

I am new in this forum. I am traveling to Bulgaria on Saturday. I downloaded the rar file from the link above which contains an .IMG file. I tried to burn it on a cd using nero, but all I got was an empty cd. Is there a problem with the .IMG file, or am I doing something wrong?

Please help me out, as I am leaving soon for the trip!

    Thank you in advance.

@Tuono, that .IMG file is not to burn on CD.
It's a map file with .IMG extension, for Garmin GPS software. I think you already know that.
You put that file in your GPS, in Garmin folder, and you can navigate in Bulgaria.
Maybe already you have in your GPS, a file named gmapsupp.img. It's another country or more.
Rename your existing gmapsupp file, and put the new gmapsupp.img file in Garmin folder.

    Good luck

    Thank you for the reply!

I am just new to GPS devices, so I miss a few things here and there.

So you say that I copy as it is in my gps device and that's it? Shouldn't i add it via mapsource? Doesn't it need unlocking?

Yesterday I added a Romania map this way (through mapsource) and this is why I got confused with this one.

For the record I have the zumo660.

Yes, you copy the file like it is, it's unlocked.
It's another type of "instalation". Not via MapSource.
If you connect your device at PC and look in Garmin folder, you'll see gmapsupp.img file that I presume it's Romania.
In that case there are 2 possibilities:
    1. rename gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img, and after that copy gmapsupp.img(Bulgaria).
    2. combine the existing gmapsupp(Romania) with the other gmapsupp(Bulgaria) with GMapTool program, and after that you copy the resultant file(gmapsupp.img) on your device.
For me it's easy to speak, beacuse I have read a lot about this kind of stuf

    Ok, I got it. Thanks.

One last question, the already installed maps (appart from Romania, I have Europe NT maps as they came along with the gps unit), will they be erased?

I will be crossing countries in this trip, so can I have all maps (europe,Bulgaria, Romania as different .IMG files) installed, or will I have to merge them somehow with the GMapTool program into one .IMG file?

Depends on where map of Europe is.
I was talking about the card. If the map is in internal memory of device, let it there, don't touch it.
You have a dedicated device and if you broke something in it, I don't know how you can repair.
I don't know much about Garmin devices, but as far as I know, in the memory you can have gmapprom.img(Europe), and on the card you can have another gmapprom.img and gmapsupp.img. So, be very carrefull when you transfer maps in device.
So, on the card, try to have Romania as gmapprom.img and Bulgaria as gmapsupp.img. If the software doesn't see one of these countries, maybe you have to create the .unl file. You know, with Garmin_KeyGen from JetMouse with the MapID.
Or, you have to merge Romania and Bulgaria in one file, gmapprom or gmapsupp depends on how Garmin see it.

    I hope that I didn't confused you.

I got your point. I will have to check my gps first (now I am at work, so I can't :-) ) and then try to do anything. I will not risk in anycase.

I am not at all familiar with gps devices and terms like unl files,Jet mouse etc. I will have to look them up.

I have also the option of leaving my gps as it is (with Europe and romania maps) and add the Bulgaria map to my mobile (Nokia 5800) running Garmin mobile Xt. I hope this is possible and I hope it will not rain as I will be on motorcyle. :-)

    Thanks for all the info.

Bulgaria is unlocked, you'll not have any problem with it. And I presume that you unlocked Romania in MapSource before transfered it on card.
You have to see what files you have on card and after that how combine the maps.
    Good luck.
    I wait for a feedback.

It was finally easier than I expected.

There was already a gmapsupp.img file in the internal memory of my gps. From the size of it, I guess that it was the map of Romania I had recently added.

So, what I did was to copy gmapsupp.img file of Bulgaria to the extra card that I have. That was it. Now I have all the maps that I need for this trip. No renaming was done as one file is placed in the internal memory of the device and the other is placed in the additional sd card .

Good. ROAD 2008=Romania has aprox 400 MB.
Garmin software read's all the maps?
Somewhere in the program you should see and have the possibility to check/uncheck the maps in your device.
And from what you say, you should have 3 maps.
CN Europe NT (City Navigator) = gmapprom.img in memory
    Ro.A.D.2008 = gmapsupp.img in memory
    O.F.R.M. Geotrade 5.21 LAT = gmapsupp.img on card

When you are in Romania and Bulgaria, if the map is not very detailed, I sugest you to uncheck City Navigator,
because the software will consider that map as primary and Road and OFRM will be ignored.
You'll see that when you will be there.

    Have a good trip.
